In this episode, Dr. Nina and Dr. Jessica explore the history of over-apologizing, and how this behavior keeps us stuck, and they validate the rationale behind why we might find ourselves in this pattern. They begin the episode by sharing about their friendship, and how to sustain relationships long-term, professionally, and personally. They continue by affirming reasons one might apologize in order to take healthy responsibility when necessary. Subsequently, the majority of the episode covers scenarios where it might be less helpful to apologize, and instead, they encourage standing in your self-worth and inner guiding light. If you’ve found yourself apologizing and later thought…”, What am I sorry for, actually?”, or apologized for merely existing, this episode is for you.
Dr. Jessica Stern, is a clinical psychologist and clinical assistant professor at NYU Langone Health, Faculty Group Practice. Her life experience combined with her clinical training offers a unique approach to addiction, ADHD, trauma, and life transitions. She’s also been a practicing Reiki Master for 13 years and is currently studying to become a certified astrologer. Sean and Christina talk about social justice and walking the fraught line between intrapersonal work (one’s self-care via therapy or coaching) and interpersonal work (one’s interactions with others in our culture and society).

Dr. Nina and Dr. Taylor explore the burnout epidemic, and the systemic barriers to caring for ourselves in meaningful ways. Dr. Taylor shares her own personal experience with burnout, and how it leads to a more creative and meaningful life path, both personally and professionally. They validate the emotional and physical exhaustion we are all feeling as a society, coupled with the lack of motivation to work in jobs that don’t light us up. They explore how creativity can help manage symptoms of burnout, specifically by designing the interior of our homes to reflect our most authentic selves. Dr. Nina and Dr. Taylor are real-life friends, and big music fans, so they discuss their shared interests, and Dr. Taylor offers a few recommended songs to accompany this episode.
Dr. Taylor Harris’ work focuses on improving housing and social services for individuals with experiences of homelessness. She became interested in addressing burnout after experiencing it herself and seeing how it affects homeless service providers. She uses interior design to cope with burnout and to create spaces that help others express themselves and thrive in their work and personal lives.
