    The story of the NXIVM cult founded in 1998 by Keith Raniere and Nancy Salzman has remained in the media ever since details of Raniere’s abusive sex ring emerged. The cult operating as a wellness organization which provided seminars about human potential development, served as a front organization for criminal activity by Raniere and his close associates. Members of the organization which included major Hollywood celebrities, were involved in the trafficking of women at Raniere's command. Raniere’s sex slaves, with one just being 15 years old when the abuse started, were branded with his initials on their pelvises and coerced into having sex with him.     Following an anonymous tip in 1997, police entered a mansion in Rancho Santa Fe, an exclusive suburb of San Diego, California, and discover 39 victims of a mass suicide. Members of the cult known as “Heaven’s Gate” including their leader Marshall Herff Applewhite, left video diaries explaining their reasons for the mass suicide: Applewhite had convinced them in order to reach heaven, they must abandon their human forms and board an alien spacecraft that would trail behind the comet Hale-Boop, and they would then soar through space to a better place, known as “the Next Level.” So, how was another religious cult leader able to lead his flock to their deaths willingly.

    David Koresh was an American Cult leader who was the head of the religious movement, Branch of Davidians. Koresh believed that he was the “final prophet” sent to bring the word of God to his followers by whatever means necessary, even if it meant pitting his followers against the US government in what would be the biggest gunfire on American soil since the Civil War. David Koresh’s central role in the 51-day siege occurring in Waco, Texas left four ATF agents dead as well as 82 cult members, with 76 of them along with Koresh perishing in a massive fire that engulfed the compound. He promised his followers a utopia living in the Jungles of South America by way of an agricultural commune in Guyana known as Jonestown. Jones ultimately led his followers into a mass suicide on November 18, 1978, which left more than 900 dead and came to be known as the Jonestown Massacre.     Edward Gein also known as “The Butcher of Plainfield” or “The Plainfield Goul”, was an American murderer, suspected serial killer and body snatcher. He admitted to the murders of two women, Mary Hogan in 1954 and Bernice Worden in 1957, but was believed to be connected to several unsolved cases. Following Bernice Worden’s disappearance, police investigated Gein’s home and made a gruesome discovery. Inside his home police found he was keeping human organs inside of jars and had fashioned clothing and furniture out of human bones and body parts. But not only that, Gein readily admitted to digging up corpses to practice necrophilia and to make masks and suits out of human skin. His horrifying crimes inspired several fictional characters in horror movies like that of Norman Bates in Psycho, Leatherface in Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs. So, was Edward Gein’s born with a sinister mind or was he created into having one?
