  • God Has A Name: Part 2

    Ryan Moffat Exodus 34:5-7

    1. What did God say to you through the Scriptures?

    2. Dane Ortlund says: “That God is rich in mercy means that your regions of deepest shame and regret are not hotels through which divine mercy passes but homes in which divine mercy abides. It means the things about you that make you cringe most, make him hug hardest. It means his mercy is not calculating and cautious, like ours. It is unrestrained, flood-like, sweeping, magnanimous. It means our haunting shame is not a problem for him, but the very thing he loves most to work with. It means our sins do not cause his love to take a hit. Our sins cause his love to surge forward all the more. It means on that day when we stand before him, quietly, unhurriedly, we will weep with relief, shocked at how impoverished a view of his mercy-rich heart we had.” -Gentle and Lowly Discuss this quote. How does this profound truth strike you?

    3. God is “Slow to Anger” and the Bible says plenty about God’s wrath, but we learn from Lamentations 3:33 “The Lord does not afflict from his heart.” What does that mean? How does truth cause you to think about God’s discipline in your life?

    4. Anything else about God’s name substantive to you?

    2. Are you prepared for what God wants to do in your life? What can you do to get ready?

    3. Ok…be honest. When do you typically worship God: before or after he works? What about Sunday; is it the last day of the week for you, or the first? What would you have to change to adjust your worship response to worship God before…instead of just after?

    4. What are some “temporary” rescues that we often look to; the things that are good, but ultimately don’t truly rescue us.

    5. What would it look like for you to become “captive” to the Savior? How can you celebrate what he’s done, anticipate what he is going to do, and ultimately trust in him to do it!?

    6. Re-read Exodus 12:1-28 and as you do, put yourself in the place of the Israelites. Feel their anguish and desperation for a rescue. When you finish, spend some time in prayer thankful for Jesus’ substitutionary sacrifice for you.
