Today’s guest has a tattoo that says, “Comfort is a slow death” and is living a life that proves she is willing to do what it takes to avoid that fate. This is a woman I’ve never met but I FEEL like I know her, and I think it’s apparent from this conversation that we would get along just fine.
Marissa Inhofer grew up in Yankton, South Dakota. Her mom always told her she was never meant for a small town, and she made a quick exit as soon as she turned 18. After a stint in Anaheim, CA and another at South Dakota State University, she made her way to Minneapolis, where she attended massage therapy school and occupational therapy school. During her time in Minnesota, she played roller derby for 10 years, captaining her home team The Atomic Bombshells, winning the golden skate and playing on the All-Star travel team.
During this time, she also trained for and had 3 professional MMA fights (please check out the video on her Instagram!).
After graduating OT school, she sold everything she owned and moved to NZ for a year where she travelled and taught derby boot camps. When it was time to leave NZ, she headed to the next best thing, Honolulu HI. She went on a “year trial” and ended up staying 10.
She has summited Mt. Kilimanjaro and travelled solo to over 10 countries. She has taught CrossFit, corporate fitness and yoga and now resides in Colorado where she is a whitewater raft guide, a proud auntie, and a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
She is a lover of life, travel, adventure, dance and dogs, currently working toward van life so she can hit the road.
We talk about discovering what adventure means for you, taking risks, being willing to change your plans, working through fear, mental health challenges, the importance of community, why growth is so important AND uncomfortable, being a woman in sport, the importance of movement for maintaining longevity and quality of life, relationships, backing yourself, dance, white water rafting and more. Grab your journal and get ready to dream...what adventure is waiting for YOU?
