It's been proven that companies prosper more when diversity increases and we improve gender balance.
Yet the workplace is the same experience for all women.
In fact, white women are at a distinct advantage in terms of promotions, pay, and dealing with microaggressions.
When we can understand how our experience is similar and different from women of color, we can work together towards a future where all women can rise to create a truly diverse workplace that creates prosperity for all.
Jill is joined in this episode by Mariah Johnson, who is an equity consultant with an emphasis on intersectionality of gender and race, and Ashley Cisneros Ritter, who is the Practice Director at Chicago Career Consulting and also the Associate Dean at the School of Business at North Park University, where she has also taught gender studies.
Together they explore how women leaders can recognize and reflect on the intersections of gender, race, class, language, education and more to spot opportunities to lead in new ways that create new norms in the workplace so all women have more opportunities to rise up and find fulfillment at every level.
05:25 — How women carry the burden of unpaid labor and how to spot it to prevent it
09:25 — How to identify where patriarchal norms are at play and begin to shift the standard away from those working styles
20:32 — How women can let go of the mental burden we tend to carry so we can be present for ourselves and our family
27:27 — What intersectionality is, how it can create additional imbalances in the workplace, and how we can recognize and address it (especially if you're a white woman)
