The face of college football has changed drastically in the last few years, and it's only going to continue in the months and years ahead. Where does Arizona State fit within these moves? Is the program equipped to compete, both on the field and off with NIL, the portal, and more? What does it need to reach its potential?
These are fundamental questions that are now on the plate of ASU's new Associate Athletic Director for Football Administration Tony DeFeo. ASU's release announcing the hire over the summer said his duties will include "oversight, general management, and executive leadership of ASU's football program." DeFeo brings a diverse skillset to Tempe. He has worked extensively in sports and technology business, but also roles in the San Francisco 49ers front office and a key role as the Director of Football Operations, Analytics, and NFL Liaison for the University of Michigan.
On this episode, Tony and I discuss what brought him to Tempe, what his background adds to the program, the quickly changing landscape of the sport & ASU's place within it, the value of analytics, and so much more.
