What has work been? What is work now? What could work look like?
Control to Integration | Telling to Learning | Competing to Cooperating | Silos to Coalescence
Every time I talk to Stelio Verzera - I feel energized, I learn something new, my mid opens to new ideas and challenges.
Stelio’s view of the world of work is expressed differently. He is not alone in looking at things from a systemic, ecoistic point of view, but the way he is bringing this into the world is unique.
This conversation takes us to many places – from anti-fragility to surfing emergence and rediscovering ourselves. We look at technology, polycentricity and sense-making. We talk about the future, how the world of work will move from control to integration, from telling to learning, from competing to cooperating, from silos to coalescence across boundaries.
Stelio Verzera is an Evolution Coach and the Co-Founder of Cocoon Pro.

I know a lot of people who had to #reskill and carve out new career pathways for themselves.
It is very difficult! When the education is there, employers are not. When the employers are willing, governmental support is missing. We have tons of amazing free online education. But it is not recognized by businesses. There are incredible people who took the leap, learned something totally new. They need work experience to get started, but an internship is only for “fresh” graduates. And while we are complaining about talent shortages, we are not really willing to employ someone who has so drastically changed their career. Let someone else try first…
Today’s podcast is about #reskilling, #education and #meaningfulcareers.
My guests are two amazing people who are passionate about changing the world of work. They provide education, identify career pathways and support the transition of those who are experiencing major career shifts:
➔Jamie Albers, the co-founder of Mento (https://www.mento.co/about)
➔David Timis, the Global Communications Leader at Generation (https://www.generation.org/)
To get in touch with them:
- Jamie: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamiealbers/
- David: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidtimis/
We will talk about:
➔ The impact this past one and a half year has had on the job market
➔ The harsh realities of career transitioning for the re-skilled
➔ Transforming education to allow for multiple and diverse pathways throughout our lives
➔ The 4Cs needed to succeed in the world of work

➔ Can you envision "Zero Trauma Transformation" for your organization?
➔ How and when would you engage in deep change, without the need to do so?
➔ Once successful, how do you avoid the "Resilience Paradox"?
My guest today is Liisa Välikangas, professor of Innovation Management & Leadership at the Technical University of Denmark.
This time, our resilience quest, is to learn to run before the lion starts chasing us and to do so with as little pain as possible. The journey is not predefined and there is no magic wand. So, we will talk about
- Rehearsal for change
- Building cognitive flexibility
- Scenarios and experimentation
- Courage and serendipity
- Jesters, the Resilience Paradox, and the ideal “Zero Trauma Transformation” are also part of the discussion.

We have chosen HYBRID as the new way of work.
HYBRID is challenging and faces the risk of inheriting the worst of the two worlds of work.
HYBRID opens up concerns about Power - Fairness - Trust - Performance. Can we address them?
Mark Mortensen (INSEAD) is joining me today, for a 2nd round of discussions, exactly 12 months after we have recorded together an episode of the Making Remote Work series. We go through the research that has been conducted this past year and talk about hybridity – power and fairness, trust, performance and adaptation.
Most importantly, Mark will share his insights and tips so that the hybrid world we are walking towards will be successful for both individuals and organizations

Newman Award, Organisational Behaviour Division Best Dissertation-Based Paper Award, and Runner-up OCIS Division Best Paper Award from the Academy of Management; and the Best Paper Award Finalist nomination by the Interdisciplinary Network of Groups Researchers. Today we are looking through the lenses of sociology and psychology to answer two questions:
1. How can organizational culture act as a shock absorber & help companies rebound from adversities?
2. What makes individuals resilient?
Together with Huggy Rao, Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources at Stanford Graduate School of Business, we will:
✅ Discuss how "cultural protections" enable people and organizations respond to shocks
✅ Provide examples on how to activate the "best self" in each individual and how this will lead to increased resilience
✅ Emphasize the need to move from "a room called fear" to a "room called hope" for both individuals and organizations
✅ Moving away from Planning towards building the CARE-SHARE-DARE muscle in Organizations
🔷Professor Rao studies collective action within organizations and in markets. His research and by implication, his teaching, revolves around scaling up mobilization, innovation, and talent in organizations.
🔷His most recent book, co-authored with Bob Sutton of the School of Engineering at Stanford, is "Scaling Up Excellence". The book is a Wall Street Journal Bestseller and was included in the best business books to read in 2014 by Financial Times, Inc Magazine, Amazon, Forbes, Washington Post and the Library Journal.
🔷His research has been published in journals such as the Administrative Science Quarterly, American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science and Strategic Management Journal. He is also the author of “Market Rebels: How Activists Make or Break Radical Innovation”, Princeton University Press. 2009.
