Christians must love one another, because Christ loves us. So far, so good. But, what does this mean for boring, normal, everyday life? Pastor Tyler preaches from Romans 12:9-21.

The title of the sermon says it all! Because Christianity isn't a low-maintenance commitment, God demands that our relationship with Him, through Jesus Christ, transforms every area of our life. In our passage, the apostle Paul switches subjects away from the people of Israel and to the practical realities of life as a Christian. Something strange and otherworldly happened one day in the foothills Mt. Hermon. Either God is trying really hard to make something work, or He directs and controls reality. The scriptures tell us the second option is the right one. But, how does this work?

Paul wishes the Jewish people would accept Jesus as their Messiah. In Romans ch. 9, he defended God's character and essentially said "God can do what He wants because He's God." Then, lest we think this means we're all puppets dancing helplessly to God's tune, Paul closed the chapter by declaring that Israel didn't believe in Jesus because they pursued righteousness by works--what I call "resume-ism." The Apostle Paul worries about the Jewish people. He wishes with all his heart that Israel would accept Jesus as its Messiah. But, most haven't done it. Why? Paul asks three rhetorical questions and answers each. Then, he offers up his explanation for why Israel hasn't accepted Christ. This is one of the most famous passages in the Bible, and it peels back a bit of the divine curtain about the inner workings of salvation. Pastor Tyler preaches from Romans 9.

Epiphany celebrates that God's good news isn't only for the Jeweish people--it's for the Gentiles, too! Today, we'll study the familiar story of the wise men from who traveled from the East, following a mysterious star which led them to the house where the Christ-child was staying with his mother and Joseph. We'll explore God's promises to the Gentiles from the Old Covenant, the confusion this produced among the Jewish people, and why this union of two people into one family was a mystery God finally unveiled during Jesus' ministry. "Christmastide" celebrates the time between Christmas and the arrival of the magi from the East (Matthew 2), celebrated on 06 January. These are the "twelve days of Christmas" from the famous song. Traditionally, churches did not celebrate Christ's first advent until Christmas Day. Instead, churches used the month of December to celebrate God's promises that the Messiah would come.
