The term "beige flag" first gained popularity on TikTok through a humorous story about a romantic relationship. It refers to subtle signals or behaviors in a new relationship that may indicate potential challenges in the future. Unlike red flags, which signal serious concerns, or green flags, which indicate positive traits, beige flags are ambiguous and cannot be classified as strictly good or bad signs. This ambiguity can lead individuals in the relationship to feel confused, wondering, "What are they really doing?"
The concept is inspired by the novel "It Ends with Us" by Colleen Hoover, which has also been adapted into a film starring Blake Lively. In this story, we observe couples exhibiting beige flag behaviors. These behaviors can be more subtle than red flags, making it difficult to initially recognize the potential for underlying issues. Furthermore, beige flag behaviors may also indicate a risk of violence in a relationship.
If you feel that something is off in your current relationship, take a moment to reassess whether your partner exhibits any beige flag signs before it's too late.
