It occurs when your mind and consciousness wake up while your body is still in REM sleep, and under the effects of complete muscle paralysis (atonia). This state can be explained easily enough through science and understanding of our sleep cycle, but. What explanation can be given as to why so many people from all over the world report seeing and feeling the same horrifying things during sleep paralysis? Is there perhaps another layer to it?
