SlothBoogie Podcast

Adept, versatile, dedicated, and full of positivity, Kid Simius is a wizkid who has dedicated himself to the ethos: ‘There are no labels, no tags, just music’. Born in Granada, Spain, and currently based in Berlin, Kid Simius circumvents genre limitations to embrace and merge a myriad of styles. Delving into electronic music, ambient, surf-inspired electronica, Balearic, disco, and lots more, this is an artist who puts good energy and human connection above genre labels.

Since relocating to the German capital he has created unorthodox beats as part of the Marsimoto crew, delivered remixes for Parcels or Beatsteaks, released many successful tracks as a solo artists on his label 'Jirafa Records‘ (remixed by Echonomist, Paul Kalkbrenner, Fort Romeau & Magit Cacoon) and co-wrote a platinum-certified chartbuster on the side, with Marteria’s ‘Lila Wolken’. Also appearing on festival stages as diverse as Melt!, Fusion, Berlin Festival, and SXSW, as well as supporting WhoMadeWho & Major Lazor.

On the radio, or in the studio, on the road, or simply jamming and freestyling, Kid Simius makes music at the moment and for the moment. There’s no fakery or pretence, just pure, deep authentic love for music in its many beautiful forms.

Welcome to a rather steamy edition of the SlothBoogie Radioshow as Pat selects some of the hottest new releases for you. This week's mix was recorded during a pretty toasty heatwave here in the UK and should therefor be best enjoyed poolside with an ice cold Flirtini in your hand. Let us know if you're vibing this one in the comments!

Originally hailing from NYC but raised in Madrid, Spain where he is now based, Oli Stewart aka Casbah 73 spent the better part of the nineties scouring the US for vinyl, leaving no warehouse intact in his quest for the rare and the downright elusive. His knack for discovering, or bringing to light many an unknown classic, meant his reputation with DJs and producers around the globe was legendary.

"Like many, this enforced absence from dancefloors, from dancing, is something I missed so much this past year, a reality I really couldn't ignore when approaching this mix. It's been a time for taking stock, appreciating what we love, and seeing things from a new perspective.

In light of this, I decided the best thing to do was to simply tear things up, start at the beginning, approach the mix with a totally fresh mindset. Out with old habits and concepts! Shake it all up and see what drops out of the tree. So with this in mind, I fired up the equipment, hit play on the turntables and this, as they say, is what happened next. The result? From Disco to Detroit and back again. The old, the new, with particular emphasis on raw, loose sounds.

I hope you enjoy it and, more importantly, I hope we all get to see each other on a dancefloor somewhere soon!"

Danny is back this week keeping the chat low but the vibes high! Let's get it.

@roof , aka brand designer Drew Kilpatrick (DrewDrew Design) and DJ from Sydney, Australia, is signed to @finerthingsrecords label. He's been spinning tracks for the best part of 13 years, where he's a regular part of the Australian club and festival circuit. Known for his diverse taste and silky smooth mixing, sit back and take in a solid 'Arvo Sesh'...

"Inspired by a classic Australian 'arvo sesh'. Let the mix take you on a journey... starting with pre-drinks in the spicy Sydney afternoon sun, immersing in the softer side of house music. As the sun goes down, it's an uber to the club to chase those big room rompers with a tease of old electro. Finally, we ease off the night with some slow burners as we roll on home with a well-deserved kebab in hand."

To honour the 100th release on Stay True Sounds, they invited South Africa's leading deep-house player, China Charmeleon, to choose 13 tracks from their back catalogue to remix... many of which have made it on to this hour-long, smoked out, hazy, deep trip.

China has fast become a favourite in the South African deep house scene with his non-stop work ethic (releasing 2 full albums and 2 Ep's in 2020!), consequently promoting his rise through the scene.

He crafted his trade from a young age, being raised in a church with his father allowing him to explore the keyboard.

China took the last six months remixing these Stay True Sounds classics and making them his own, as he would. Sit back, relax, and enjoy these recreations from SA's musical genius to celebrate one hundred Stay True Sounds Independent releases!

"I couldn't have asked for a better catalogue to remix," says China Charmeleon. "I am fortunate that Stay True noticed me when they did, and I hope you enjoy my remixes of so many quality tunes!"
