  • Lotus Resources (ASX: LOT) confirms Kayelekera as one of the world’s lowest cost uranium projects (w/ Keith Bowes)

Lotus Resources (ASX: LOT) managing director Keith Bowes joins Small Caps to discuss the company’s restart definitive feasibility study for its Kayelekera uranium project in Malawi.

The company released the study findings last week and is now focused on fast-tracking engagements with nuclear energy utilities, arranging financing options and securing offtake deals to support the restart of the mine.

With an initial upfront capital cost of US$88 million, Kayelekera has been confirmed as one of the lowest capital cost projects of its kind in the world.

Other highlights of the study include a US$35.8 million upgrade in plant and infrastructure to improve project economics and process reliability.

Kayelekera is currently on care and maintenance since it ceased producing uranium in 2014.

A restart of the project is expected to result in an average production of 2.4 million pounds of uranium oxide per year for the first seven years of a 10-year mine life.

Lotus says the timing of Kayelekera’s restart depends on the uranium price and the economic terms relating to the company’s long-term offtake agreements.

  • Southern Cross Gold (ASX: SXG) intersects wide zones of high-grade gold at Sunday Creek (w/ Michael Hudson)

Southern Cross Gold (ASX: SXG) managing director Michael Hudson joins Small Caps to discuss the latest results in a drilling campaign at the company’s 100% owned Sunday Creek project in Victoria.

Wide and continuous zones of gold-antimony mineralisation over 100m were confirmed in the Apollo shoot with more than a dozen high-grade intercepts of up to 130g/t gold and 25.1% antimony with abundant visible gold.

The best result was a long 42m intercept grading at 4.8g/t gold equivalent from 166m, including 13m at 13.9g/t gold equivalent (10g/t gold and 2.5% antimony) from 194m. These holes delivered the second and fourth best holes to be drilled at Sunday Creek based on cumulative grade by metres.

Results also indicated the high-grade mineralisation extends above and below the drilling, which Mr Hudson says further support the project as a significant discovery in the Victorian goldfields.

As at mid-August, two drill rigs are continuing to operate at the Rising Sun and Apollo shoots at Sunday Creek.

  • Trigg Mining (ASX: TMG) prepares for drilling at Lake Throssell sulphate of potash project (w/ Keren Paterson)

Trigg Mining (ASX: TMG) managing director Keren Paterson joins Small Caps to discuss the company’s latest plans for its Lake Throssell sulphate of potash (SOP) project in Western Australia.

The Perth-based explorer has kicked off a new field season including establishing new access tracks in preparation for air core and water bore drilling at the project. Results from these activities are expected to be used to support an estimation of Lake Throssell’s initial ore reserves.

Trigg also recently completed a sighter evaporation trial on brine samples with logged data to be used to establish guideline conditions for a proposed bulk evaporation program planned to commence in late July.

This program is aimed at simulating operational steady-state brine evaporation and will generate salt products for trialling optional SOP processing routes. The data will be incorporated into the Lake Throssell pre-feasibility study.

Meanwhile, Trigg has received an allocation of up to $180,000 under the WA government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme to co-fund an air core drilling program at the Lake Yeo SOP project, south of Lake Throssell.

The company hopes Lake Yeo could be a repeat of Lake Throssell, which is estimated to contain a total drainable mineral resource of 14.4 million tonnes at 4,665 milligrams per litre of potassium.
