In 1996, Robin Murphy bought a Maid Brigade franchise intending to clean homes in 3 towns in the suburbs north of NYC. The business quickly expanded to serve 4 counties and eventually, Robin begged and pleaded with her husband, Gary to join in the fun. In 2022, they added another Maid Brigade territory outside of Hartford CT.
Robin is passionate about the house cleaning industry and its potential to improve people’s lives.
However, she thinks the industry is widely undervalued, both by the general public and many housecleaning company owners and workers.
She thinks it’s time for that to change.
Robin firmly believes that house cleaning isn’t menial work, but an integral component of healthcare. She believes it deserves recognition and acknowledgment on par with other healthcare services.
The Murphys recently launched a second brand, ChirpChirp, with the intention of playing a role in reshaping the industry.
ChirpChirp’s first steps were to shed the word, “maid” and to create an employee-focused workplace where staff understand how important the work is that they perform and they do it with skill, confidence, and dignity.
Robin is an advocate for an industry-wide transformation.
She firmly believes that changing the way we perceive house cleaning is a step forward for the industry and an enhancement for the health and well-being of customers, employees, and beyond. It’s a vision of progress and empowerment that will benefit everyone.
Robin is an ISSA Residential Ambassador and on weekends, she and Gary sell pickles in an outdoor market in Brooklyn.
