In this special episode, recorded on 1 September 2021, we are excited to welcome back Insight Provider Mio Kato and the LightStream Research team, as they present unique views into approaching the Japanese market. Mio, along with Insight Providers Scott Foster, Shifara Samsudeen, and Oshadhi Kumarasiri, begin by outlining how their on-the-ground expertise benefits foreign investors. Then, they go over LightStream's 2021 high-conviction calls and see how they fare today, and offer two new promising names for investors interested in the market.
LightStream Research conducts quantitatively rigorous and data-driven analysis with a focus on Japan and Asia. The team supplement traditional qualitative insights from company relationships with a robust quantitative foundation that examines as much historical data as is available. They further refine the accuracy of their insights and calls through the use of alternative data to flesh out current trends, and through a valuation framework that emphasises non-superficial peer group selection and a proper attempt to understand the metrics and changes that have driven security valuations in the past. On this episode, recorded on 16 July 2021, Insight Provider Henry Soediarko explores sectors to overweight and underweight in Indonesia. The country's healthcare system has been overwhelmed due to COVID-19, raising questions about hospital operators such as Mitra Keluarga Karyasehat Tbk (MIKA IJ) and Siloam International Hospital (SILO IJ), while tighter testing and vaccination regulations could bode well for Prodia (PRDA IJ) as the only listed entity in Indonesia with expertise on testing.

On this ESG-focused episode, based on a webinar organised in collaboration with SGX, we are thrilled to welcome back Insight Provider Kyle Rudden. Kyle shares insights on the trending issue of Environmental, Social, and Governance Investing, widely seen as a way of investing “sustainably” where investments are made with consideration of the environment and human well-being, as well as the economy.
Kyle believes global sustainability is imperative and views private-sector capital as its cornerstone. As such, he supports the various impact-oriented strategies typically associated with ESG investing. However, his views on ESG and investing lean more pragmatic than idealistic, and his research focuses on applying ESG analysis to general investing rather than to "ESG investing" per se. Kyle subscribes to the Triple Bottom Line view of sustainability, where economic and financial metrics are deemed as important as ESG factors.
