  • Special Edition | Wish You Were Here SWAP
    It's time for a swap!  If you're interested, read below -    Timeline:  Sign ups close February 29, 2016,  you will be matched up early in the first week of March, 2016, and your package must be sent by the end of the day on March 31, 2016 at the latest.   How you'll be matched up: I will match you with someone outside of your city (and if at all possible, someone from a place that you don't already own a 'You Are Here' Starbucks mug from), so you will receive a mug that you don't have super easy access to.  Person A will ship to Person B, Person B will ship to Person C, Person C will ship to Person A (this means you won't be sending to the same person who sends to you).    What must you include? 1)  A Starbucks 'You Are Here' mug from your city - like the ones shown here - http://starbucks-city-mugs.com/you-are-here-series/ 2) 100-200 grams of yarn - enough for a small project (socks, shawl, scarf, etc).  Please aim for the $20-30 range. 3) Any other local goodies you'd like to include (encouraged), and/or fun things like a notebook, stickers, pens, etc.  These little goodies don't necessarily have to be local. 4) Coffee or Tea (either locally made, or reminiscent of something local to you. 5) A postcard from your city. Let's make sure we put together a package we would be happy to receive! CLICK HERE for the sign up sheet/questionnaire.

    {show notes ~ episode one ten} Happy New Year!! I'm so happy to have you with me this year! Today, we draw the winners of the Modern Lopi and Spillyjane Knits Mittens ebooks! For the first time in 10 years, I managed to set more realistic expectations of my time and didn't do any last minute (or any at all!) Christmas knitting.  I was surprised with the amount of guilt I felt about this, but in the end it just wasn't realistic. The days leading up to Christmas were spent knitting projects I truly enjoyed, and enjoyed even more knowing there was no deadline. Here was one of my holiday highlights - I am still up several times a night to feed Emily (she's only 2 months old, so this is to be expected), but I found the Tin Can Knits 12 Days of Christmas giveaway took a bit of the sting out of the night feedings.  The pattern would be released at midnight, and I found myself eagerly awaiting Emily's wake-up so I could check to see which pattern they were giving away!  I snagged every single one of their giveaway patterns between 1-3 am. I hope you had a great holiday! {works in progress} Nordic Wind by Cabin FourHandspun Corriedale Fish Lips Kiss Heel Socks, fiber from the September 2015 Spunky Eclectic Club {finished objects} Stovetop hat for Jack by Tin Can Knits (with a surprising yarn choice).Stovetop hat for Emily by Tin Can Knits (re-purposed MillaMia yarn from her Tri-Peak Hat by Wooly Wormhead).Beamish hat for Emily by Wooly Wormhead. {events} Tin Can Knits 12 Days of Christmas (link is for reference, giveaway is over) culminated in the release of a new free pattern - Flax Light - a fingering weight version of their original worsted weight Flax pullover.A trip to the Sweet Georgia Studio (finally picked up my October-December 2015 club fiber - sort of...). {hand spinning} Zzzzzz...no actual spinning really, other than a test spin of some romney/texel, but a few acquisitions and talk about a gorgeous gift from my friend Rachel of Welford Purls and the Wool 'n Spinning Podcast.  I know I've said this before, but if you're a spinner, you need to check her out.  She's also the new spinning teacher at the Sweet Georgia Studio!!  Congrats Rachel! {tunes} "Pamgaea" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ {watch}

    {show notes ~ episode one oh seven} Baby Emily joined me on the show today (and by 'joined me' I mostly mean she slept on my shoulder while I tried to podcast with one hand).  She was born on October 23, 2015 at 8:10am, weighing 8 pounds 2 ounces and measuring 19.75" long.  She'll be 4 weeks old tomorrow. From our newborn photo shoot with Candice Wong Photography - using my POP Blanket by Tin Can Knits I know you're hear for the fibery goodness though!  I have a couple of finished objects and just one work in progress, as well as some inspiration for a future project. I am saving the spinning talk for the next show where I'm hoping to have both hands free to show you what I've been working on.  Here's a hint: that pound of Shetland spun using unsupported long draw?  Done! And even more amazing than I ever could have hoped!  Can't wait to talk about it next time.   {works in progress} Nordic Wind by Cabin Four {finished objects} Mittens for All by Jodi LewandaCable Baby Hat by Pamela W.
