So Here's the Thing episodes

  • The Kissing Booth

Y'aaaaall Karli hadn't seen this movie so we watched it this week, and let me tell you...this movie would be regressive for 1942. Get ready for our biggest rip yet as we decimate Netflix's The Kissing Booth.

CW: Discussions about Domestic Violence and physical abuse.

We had a good time recording this episode, but it also got unexpectedly dark in the second half. Domestic Violence isn't a joke, and although we both think it's an important discussion to have, especially as it pertains to this teen rom-com, please take care of yourself. If engaging with the subject would hurt your mental health, meet us back in two weeks for our Christmas episode!

Also, it is still National Native American Heritage Month and National Diabetes Awareness Month! Learn more at the links below:

  • Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron

Ah yes, the film that started it all.

Our seventh episode is perhaps our most beloved, because it's what gave us the idea to discuss films that were ahead of their time.

If you haven't seen Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, or haven't watched it since you were eight, we humbly ask you to watch this one before you tune in.

Spirit tells an unflinching story of the damage inflicted by American colonization. It covers topics that mainstream media is just barely getting to now. If you thought it was a movie for 8 year old horse girls, that's only because in 2002 the rest of the world couldn't handle it.

  • The Jungle Cruise

For our 6th episode, we discuss none other than Disney's THE JUNGLE CRUISE!!

Didn't I say we'd wind up being mean to Disney? This movie is abhorrently behind it's time, it's anti-indigenous, homophobic and just plain bad. Come listen to Karli and I take an almost indulgent amount of time to explain it all in horrific detail...it'll be fun ;)

  • Halloween Movies

We couldn't pick just one so we're discussing FIVE Halloween classics this week.

This week we have ANOTHER guest star, the fabulous queen of the night herself, Andreya Pro! Hear all our thoughts on whether a handful of Halloween movies are ahead of, OR behind their time. Plus, find out our own personal, completely subjective opinions on these timeless films.

Apologies in advance to Dev Patel. We still stand you, homie!

Join us as we talk about naked giants, when colorblind casting fails, and why it is important to acknowledge the reality of sexual assault against men.

Plus, a brief tangent on why the IATSE strike is so important!

  • The Color Purple

For our 3rd episode of Season 2, we discuss the EPIC 1985 tale of a queer, black woman at the beginning of the 20th century...The Color Purple.

Come hang out and hear about how this film broke barriers in filmmaking by bring queer black stories into the mainstream, and also a rebuttal conversation about how queerness is often softened to appeal to the masses. Plus, hear Grace's rant about a particularly tone-deaf Seattle Times op-ed about homelessness in 'So Here's the Thing About Last Week'!

  • Dear Evan Hansen
In our second episode, get ready for a ROAST of the new movie (based on the hit musical) Dear Evan Hansen. This movie is way behind the times on conversations about mental health, but is also just...laughably bad. Join us as we unpack everything from teen suicide to Ben Platt's hair: real or a terrifying wig?

  • Mary Poppins

Our first episode of Season 2 is all about how Mary Poppins (1964) was ahead of it's time! We will talk a bit about how the film subtly deconstructs toxic masculinity and Capitalism.

Also join us for our new segment called "So Here's the Thing About Last Week..." where we talk for five minutes about something that has recently been weighing on our minds. This week, hear us complain about Disneyland and ask the timely question, "What is an Emmy??"
