So Texas Outdoors

If you have ever wondered what it's like to go on a top notch fully outfitted South Texas quail hunt, then this is the episode for you. This is Manny's specialty and we get into the whole experience of hunting quail in the South TX brush country with bird dogs, quail hunting rigs, drivers, and outriders. We go in depth as to what to expect on a hunt like this and how the dogs work and how sometimes they struggle to find birds. We also talk about how these types of hunts have the stigma of being an elitest hunt, for the wealthy, and how that's not necessarily always true. We talk about the sport of the hunt, the experiences and the conservation aspect of the hunt. Manny also shares a close call with one of his dogs and a snake. Thank you for listening.

In this episode, Manny and I recap our deer season, although we go off a few tangents we get into discussing the methods typically used here in deep South Texas, and calibers of choice for whitetail, I describe my rut-fest rattling experience where I rattled in 4 different bucks and was lucky enough to arrow an 8 pointer at 18 yards. We also discuss struggles of bow hunting in South Texas and we eventually get into Manny's calibers of choice for Nilgai.

We were lucky enough to draw a deer/exotic archery hunt once again at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in deep South Texas. Only half the crew this time, but we still had a great time chasing the target species of Nilgai antelope. This is the recap of the trials and tribulations of this adventure. It is not easy to get within bow range of these free range animals. If you ever want to try to draw you this hunt, come on down and give it a try. It is defenetly challenging to say the least. Listen in as we cover day by day recap.

In this episode we talk about a topic that probably doesn't get talked about enough, Safety. Specifically, being safe while hunting. Since most hunting is done with firearms, it goes without saying that firearm safety is a must and probably taken for granted that we (hunters) all know gun safety and respect firearms, but yet there are about 1000 hunting related accidents annually in the US and approximately 100 of those are fatal. Manny shares a few incidents that he has been involved with both as a guide and personally. I think we all assume we are safe, but carelessness or human error can happen to anyone. Please have a listen and be safe out there.
