Active in music since the 70s Dereck is known for his bass playing skills and diverse musical interests. He has played many styles from punk to jazz to blues to electronic to Cajun.

Dereck's current music projects include membership in the bands InDreama, Cleemann, The Jewel Beast, Paddy O'Furniture, The Pat Higgins Trio as well as solo and guest appearances.

The word Woke has become a popular source of conflict lately.

Having its origins in the struggle for peace, safety, liberty, civil rights for the descendants of Africans kidnapped and brought to the Americas as slaves. in fact its first known mention was in a song by Lead Belly, a blues/protest singer in the early part of the 20th century about a terrible injustice in Scottsboro, Alabama.... "The Scottsboro boys "  another american story of the so called justice system abusing black people, lies leading to destruction...

A mantra from the song " Master Teacher" by Erykah Badu... a warning, instruction, command.., but words can be and often are misconstrued, abused and used in ways that are counter to the original intention... woke... random people weigh in…

"What is "WOKE" ?"
