  • Why do some think laws don't apply to them?

The 1992 movie “My Cousin Vinnie” has been described as one of the greatest legal movies of all time, not because of the acting (although Marisa Tomei did win an Academy Award for best actress in a supporting role), or the clothing choices of Vinny Gambini (played by Joe Pesci). In the movie, two young men from New York are charged with murder in an Alabama town that distrusts strangers, especially New Yorkers. The movie depicts how the Rule of Law ultimately prevails when the charges are dismissed.

    –

The Rule of Law matters because it seeks to treat all persons fairly and equally. Courts strive to protect individual rights by enforcing the Rule of Law. The requirement that our courts follow the Rule of Law remains a fundamental principle of democracy.

  • Do you think participation awards should be a thing?

A highly-debated topic in sports and competitions worldwide is the use of participation trophies and the effect they can have on the children who receive them.

    –

Many argue to keep participation trophies in sports, citing that it increases self-esteem and instills important values in young children.

    –

Others argue against participation trophies because of the negative traits and misled motivation it can promote to children.

    –

It’s essential to understand both sides of the argument to form a decision on whether or not you want to hand out participation trophies at your next sports game or competition and the potential impact it can have on your kids.

  • How many people do you think will come to your funeral?

Attendance at funerals is a function of the deceased’s age, mostly:

    > Die young–under 55–and the room will be packed.

    > Die old–over 90–and hardly anyone will remember you, unless you were world famous at some point in your life.

    –

A man/woman can live a good life, be honorable, give to charity, but in the end, the number of people who come to his/her funeral is generally dependent on the weather.

    –

The thing I would ask people to do at my funeral is ‘don’t come.’ That’s not everyone, just certain people who always seem to come but I wouldn’t want.

    > If you are some random acquaintances at work who thinks it’s a good way to grab some free food, don’t come.

    > If you are some random relatives who never really spoke to me anyway, but feels obligated, don’t come.

    > If you are an ‘old friend’ who couldn’t be bothered talking to me for 10 years, but wants a chance to catch up with everyone, don’t come.

    > If you wouldn’t come to my house for dinner, if you wouldn’t come to help me in a rough spot, why the hell would you come to my funeral?

    –

So how about you? How many people and who would you want at your funeral?

  • Why are there all these major weather storms lately?

Human activity is causing rapid changes to our global climate that are contributing to extreme weather conditions. When fossil fuels are burned for electricity, heat, and transportation, carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that traps solar radiation, is released into our atmosphere.

    –

Scientists are detecting a stronger link between the planet’s warming and its changing weather patterns. Though it can be hard to pinpoint whether climate change intensified a particular weather event, the trajectory is clear — hotter heat waves, drier droughts, bigger storm surges and greater snowfall.

  • If Elon Musk is so smart why does he act so dumb?

Like the employees of Twitter, who reportedly reacted badly to news with “shock and dismay,” a lot of people are not enthused about the idea of Elon Musk buying the social media network. But now, he is, and if you’re not familiar with the guy, or just think of him as the dude who sells electric cars and is really into space, you might be wondering why so many people are up in arms. And the answer is: He’s a huge jerk! Who regularly uses his massive platform and other sources of power to do bad things!

  • Are you a Friends List collector?

Most social platforms have friends lists. Some call the friends lists by different names. Question is: do you really know these people?

    –

Reality is that people just feel important and special based on the number rather than the reality.

  • Why do some feel the need to destroy other people's property?

In life, there will always be haters. The haters spend their time tearing all the creators down and judging everything others do. They have no original ideas themselves so they criticize the people that do. And those of them that do have original ideas, are too fearful to act on them, so they never go after what they really want.

    –

They will resent you because you’re going after your dream. They will try to belittle your efforts and put you down to make themselves feel less like a failure. How often have you listened to your favorite artist on YouTube and read the comments below them? People write the most hateful things when they feel they are anonymous. They will attack and judge singers with beautiful voices and pretend to be an expert when in reality they are a tone-deaf person who could never get a singing job in their life.

    –

Don’t listen to the haters. Your purpose is to travel on your path with your blinders on, working towards your goals while ignoring the critics around you. For truly confident people have trained themselves not to care what other people think. It keeps up their positive energy and makes them happier, productive people. If they destroy something or try to tarnish it stay strong and keep moving forward.

    –

How to Deal with Haters = Don’t let others destroy your dreams. This is todays topic.

  • Do people know what manners are these days?

When we talk about modern manners, we seem to always wax nostalgic about how folks were more polite “back in the day.” It’s unclear where that means things were better in the 1870s, the 1950s, or just the era before smart phones.

    –

Either way, from what you read about the kids these days, it seems the good times are long behind us. The problem is, all of that is most likely bunk. The British Psychological Society released an report in 2016 indicating that people might just perceive more rudeness from strangers nowadays — because we’re kind of full of ourselves.

    –

What we’re truly discussing is the decline of formality, which can’t necessarily be conflated with good manners — or basic human decency. People have always been nice and rude, and just about everything in between. Manners simply change with time and context.

    –

This is our topic for today’s episode because sadly manners are rarely seen or used anymore it seems.

  • 10 tips for maintaining a healthy life.

During this time some people are still working from home and some of us are venturing out to try and have a normal life again. For those that stay home and are stuck with the foods that have been in our fridge or pantry for a while, we are temporarily living a stationary lifestyle with increased odds of physical inactivity, excessive eating and sitting, stress, anxiety, and depression.

    –

In particular, many of us will gain some weight during this time and may keep the extra weight permanently, which may carry considerable health risks for type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, stroke, and other health problems. Here, I’d like to share some basic tips and resources for how to maintain your healthy lifestyle, body weight, and overall well-being while staying home and engaging in social distancing while out in the world.

  • Why do people have a need to act fake?

By the time you ask online “Why do people act fake?”, you’ve probably had enough of it. Right? The simple answer is “Because they believe it is in their best interest.”

    –

That does not mean acting fake really is in their best interest. It might even be the worst way to behave, but that isn’t the point. They believe it’s for the better. You and I, we all do it too. Perhaps not the acting fake bit, I’m sure, but the bit where you do what you believe is in your best interest.
