  • Relationships! The Most Sobering Topic.
SHHRP 057 Tonight, We didn't know we'd be talking about our love lives, but that's what we spent a lot of the show discussing. It was an interesting look at sobriety, love, relationships and sex. They say, "don't get involved with anyone for at least a year after getting sober." I think that's good advise, Chaz thinks must longer, if ever. Give a listen, tell us what you think! -Your Host SHHRP Would you like to donate to The Sober Happy Hour? • Methadone & Suboxone, Myths & Facts
Download Episode 056 When you hear about an opioid addict deciding to quit using, it's easy to expect them to get off the drugs and quit cold turkey. The problem is, cold turkey leads to relapse with opioid addicts almost every time. They have the best intentions and find themselves back on the drugs, in one form or another, sometimes quickly, sometimes later, but almost always. With a long-term slow weaning treatment with a less dangerous, or receptor blocking medication, they can find long term if not permanent sobriety. Normies don't seem to understand the difference between a heroin user switching from heroin to pills and a heroin user switching from heroin to Suboxone, a drug that doesn't get you high, doesn't build tolerances and can literally prevent the user from using full blown opioids while they are taking it. Ignorant or arrogant 'recovery' people will also tell you that these drugs, Methadone and Suboxone are just as bad as the original addiction its self. I say bullshit! I have known many people who have gotten their lives back thanks to Suboxone. The only reason I would agree that Suboxone is "this generation's Methadone" is due to its popularity in use by addicts trying to kick a opioid addiction.  But the two are not the same, they are incredibly different. • Narcan & Paul LePage the F**k Stick
Download Episode 054 You ever hear a story about something and it just makes your blood boil? Well that's what happened to me before this episode of SHHRP. I decided to rant about it for a while at the top of the show.  Now I've decided to rant about it further here, for all to see. Paul LePage may well be the worlds biggest dick. That would be fine, if he weren't the Governor of the great state of Maine. His role as executive of a US state comes with a responsibility, not just to the constitution of said state, but to the people, the human beings who call Maine home. Contrary to what LePage may believe, some of those citizens are addicts. Gov. LePage believes that an addict's life is meaningless. That it should be sped up so that the inevitable death-by-overdose can come more quickly and quietly, as to not bother those who arrogantly blind themselves to the reality of American life. Addiction, specifically to Heroin, is a very real, very big problem in the United States today. If someone you knew was dying of a Heroin overdose and you had the chance to save their life, would you just let them die? That is why his veto explanation, which discards the lives of the addicted, is beyond the now standard "Shit LePage says" that we have grown used to. Here is why he vetoed the bi-partisan, overwhelmingly popular Narcan Bill: “Naloxone (Narcan) does not truly save lives; it merely extends them until the next overdose -- Creating a situation where an addict has a heroin needle in one hand and a shot of naloxone in the other produces a sense of normalcy and security around heroin use that serves only to perpetuate the cycle of addiction.” Paul LePage, you sir, are a heartless, ignorant buffoon. He goes on to state that the opioid addiction problems facing Maine are the result of "drug traffickers from other states bringing heroin over the border.  Also nonsense.  The heroin problem we are facing in the US, is the result of the incredibly easy access to prescription opioid pain medication and the lower street cost of heroin versus the pharmaceuticals. Making Narcan available to the loved ones of the opioid addicted or to the addicted individual themselves WILL save lives. Similar legislation exists in many other states. My personal opinion about Naloxone saving the life of an addict in overdose is simple; the terror one experiences during and after an overdose can, and often does, change a person. It can be the catalyst to recovery. Though the fear of death may not deter many drug users, the shock of nearly dying can and does. There is a much bigger conversation to be had here. Treatment vs incarceration, the stigma of drug addiction, the accessibility of care.  All things politicians like LePage ignore. We don't turn our backs on the sick and dying of Cancer, Heart Disease, Alzheimers or Diabetes. We treat them, and yet, millions of them still die every year. In Gov. LePage's twisted universe, a heroin addict doesn't even deserve a shot. To veto this bill for the reasons LePage has given is like standing by to watch a child drown while you've got a ring buoy in your hand. Why? Because, how many times did I tell that kid, "don't run by the pool?" -Your SHHRP Host

  • Chaz Made A Boo-Boo!
Episode 052 Tonight! We're back! We had some technical trouble, our hosts were out of town, or performing wedding ceremonies, but we're back! Thanks for your patience. We tried to spread the time between uploading podcasts in hopes you wouldn't realize, but I knew our listeners were smarter than that. The guys spend the episode catching up with each other, a few weeks off and there's a lot you've missed! We also get to hear a scary, albeit funny, story about Chaz forgetting that he hadn't forgotten to take his medication. Thus resulting in a technical overdose of sorts...Chaz made a boo-boo. • We've Lost The War.
Episode 50! Wow! Hey everybody, After our last episode on Radio Valencia, we say goodbye in this episode of SHHRP. Then, we spend the hour discussing the US war on drugs. A quagmire to say the least. Failure is always an option. We get pretty passionate about how much we hate the idea that drug users should get thrown in prison, while the prison system makes money off their poor addicted backs. All this and more on this very special EPISODE 50! of The Sober Happy Hour | Radio Podcast! Enjoy, SHHPR Cast Would you like to donate to The Sober Happy Hour? • Fare thee well, Radio Valencia!
Download Episode RV049! Our final Radio Valencia broadcast. It's been real, folks! So the time has come that we bid farewell to our friends at Radio Valencia. They have been great hosts, and were the reason this show found its format. They say that all good things must come to and end, but that is certainly not true for The Sober Happy Hour | Radio Podcast! We will simply be bowing out of the Radio Valencia lineup, but the live YouTube video stream, and the ever-popular Podcast will continue, uninterrupted. We thank you, RV listeners, crew, DJ's and supporters, for the time we had. This show was recorded with NOBODY in the studio. The audio suffered a bit, apologies. If you catch the two strange audio edits (the recording dropped out in the studio back in Phoenix without any indication that it had happened) you win a prize! Enjoy, SHHRP Cast.
