Episode 12 - The Stage of Our Lies
Show notes from the hosts:
In this episode Taylor and Eric discuss what it means to get honest with ourselves and others  in sobriety.

 Honesty is our topic
Eric: Honesty in Recovery? How does that work. Taylor: We are selfish drunks and don't always know it, until we get sober for alcohol.
Taylor: Is omittance a form of lying? No, we need to know the time and place to say things. Just don't lie to yourself
Eric: as a people pleaser/co-dependent. We tend to follow others and want to make them happy so will say anything.
Taylor: moral compass was off
Eric and Taylor talk about the days in addiction about lying and the relief was felt once they were honest with themselves first.
Taylor: we are always needing to be "On"  and this is where the lying came in
Brutal Honesty can be a defense mechanism
We gaslight others, lying becomes the name of the game
We need balance
See honesty in different ways
Eric asks Taylor: How does honesty show up for you in the middle of your recovery.
The "Pause" moment allows him not to engage, instead we learn how to respond.
Taylor responds to what honest looks like during addiction vs. recovery
Eric talks about being open to others' stories in order to grow in honesty
Honest reality told Eric he was the bigger cause of his own problems
Nothing is solved, but honesty is a work in progress
Honesty leads to undoing the facade that we have built.

Getting out of our own way, we can be honest about our problems.

None of this is linear. This happens differently for all of us.
Eric:Honesty is a process in recovery
Inability to look inward
With honesty comes fear, shame and anxiety.

Taylor: We have to learn to be ok with not being perfect

Episode 11 - The Pink Cloud With Cassie

The topic for today is about the "Pink Cloud" and what it means in the world of recovery.  Are we still sober? Coffee promo and give-a-way. 
Eric presents the "Pink Clouds"
Cassie describes her first Pink Cloud and how it comes and goes and how we need to continue to work.
Eric agrees. In the first year we experience so many milestones and we are overwhelmed. Then we hit a wall.
Cassie, we get tired of the work, balance is what we need
Taylor: this is a fascinating topic. We have these high's and low's. Taylor describes Recovery Burnout.
Definition of a Pink Cloud-it is a phase that many people experience in the early stages of recovery.
Liver does rebound as we stop drinking
Taylor recognizes that all addictions follow a similar pattern during  relapse 
Eric, once we let it back in we start to surpass our past levels
Cassie: yes it is progressive and we see this in relapse
Taylor's pink cloud was in the beginning
Eric's pink cloud off on on for first year, then started to look for an out. Covid made me hyper-focus on his recovery.
It's fun and cool to be in Recovery, as long as you put in the work to keep it.
Cassie talks about the geographical cure and how pink cloud showed up, but went home and drank more.
Eric finds self-care and taking recovery breaks is a good thing.
Taylor Be careful that it's not the voice telling you to lock yourself alone.
Be aware, know that alcoholic voice vs. your voice
Things change in Recovery.
Cassie: What I put out into the world is what I get back. Am I making an effort to connect.
Eric: We are all human and flawed. It is still an individualized program.
Taylor talks about his shower wall Being of service of ourselves as well as others
Eric: Resentments towards myself as well as others-Tells an Oprah story
Taylor: I could be right or I can be happy.
Eric: Learning to let go
Cassie: gotta try to stop controlling things

Episode 09 - Sober Travel Ft Rob. Show notes
The topic for today is about how to plan a sober trip and some tips and tricks for success. We also talk about our recent meet-up in NY and how we stayed sober throughout that adventure.
In this episode we are joined by Rob.  Rob has  4+ years of sobriety, part of Recovery Elevator, where we all met. Rob is into camping, hiking, travel with his wife a sons.
Rob talks about how food in new places is something he is really into in sobriety. Taylor talked about the lack of expectations on the trip, which allowed him to be flexible.  All agree that this trip was an example of not needing alcohol to have fun.   
Eric and Taylor talk about how drinking would have derailed a late night trip to the Brooklyn Bridge.
Getting to meetings when traveling. Eric describes the meeting they went to in midtown. 
Looking for meetings and staying accountable to each other becomes part of traveling sober.
Being present and authentic while traveling is a great place to be. Being with people in sobriety is like being with old friends
Eric asks How do you manage the temptations  of drinking when on vaca?
Rob found it tough when he went to Mexico during covid. Worried that he would get served, so he told them he had an allergy to alcohol.

Criteria for sober travel. have a plan, be flexible/minimize expectations, accountability. set priorities.
Don't need to be in the drinking story anymore.  Being Authentic is so much easier.

The topic for today is about what to do in Sobriety and how to find new hobbies or pick back up on some old forgotten ones. We join the guys and Robyn on the discussion of continuous counting of days.  Robyn said that the counting added to her early struggles in sobriety.  Robyn is a numbers junkie. who enjoys percentages.
Boys do introductions and introduce Robyn as their guest. How's everybody's week been.  Eric has been doing a lot of inspirational posts promoting coaching business. Taylor has been doing editing.  Robyn actually starts asking questions about Taylor and Cassie's, Klinger Crafted woodworking business. Conversation goes into what kind of hobbies that everyone is doing.
Robyn introduces the Flight, Fight or Freeze in how we deal with problems and added a fourth one from Laura McKowen called Fawning
Eric talks about how he used Fawning as a dysfunctional tool to work with difficult people.
Robyn says "too much grace becomes enabling and too much tough love leads to shame"
Robyn talks about enabling allowed her to drink longer.
Tough love doesn't work because we are already tough on ourselves
Recovery opens our awareness of ourselves
Eric talks about how the awareness piece is so important for him in navigating his own Recovery
Taylor focuses on Robyn's posts and how she can find humor in tough subjects around Recovery
Robyn talks about how dark humor has helped her to get through. Robyn took a writing course that allowed her to look at her past differently

Robyn has much gratitude that her "shitshow" memories didn't end up worse. Own your own stuff.
Eric talks about owning all of it will define your own road and journey.  This is your road to go down, good and bad, it's all about the journey.
Robyn can now look down the road and decide how to pave it.
