No intros, no guests, just Black rage and sorrow. I could not let this moment pass, I wish I could but this shit has to stop and that's for real.
Tiffany Lanoix, Glenda Flores, Sheryl Nomelli, and I talk about our less than enthusiastic support of Joe Biden, the historic moment of having a woman of color on the ticket, waiting on communist Jesus, and the urgency of this election.
I talk about the ups and downs about parenting with my favorite sociologist, my partner and wife, Dr. Rebecca Romo. We discuss the difficulties of raising kids, single parenting vs coparenting, mother guilt, policing of Black and Brown children, being poor parents vs. middle class parents, parenting during Covid, and being a multiracial queer family.
Dr. David Embrick and I talk about sociology and academia's complicity in oppression. We talk race, white sanctuaries, and Palestine. Its gonna be a hot one.
Great conversation with Dr. Rashawn Ray, who is Professor of Sociology and Executive Director of the Lab for Applied Social Science Research (LASSR) at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is also one of the co-editors of Contexts Magazine: Sociology for the Public. Formerly, Ray was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, he is a Rubenstein Fellow at the Brookings Institute. We talk about the Black Lives Matter movement, reform vs. defund vs. abolishing the police, why voting matters, and which white people get an invite to the cookout.
