Over the past week, 4BC Afternoons has shone a spotlight on energy in Australia.

Today's focus is on the relationship between gas and electricity prices. 

Principal Advisor at the Australia Institute, Mark Ogge told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, "80% of gas mined in Australia is exported."

"So people who you've spoken to who think that the problem is renewables are wrong, because gas is the fuel that often sets the electricity price and because it's so expensive it's driving up electricity prices."

"When you get your energy bills you should blame the gas industry," Mr Ogge continued.
