Today’s tale is called Fire. I was in Australia at the time of the terrible bushfires of late 2019 and early 2020. This story tries to conjure up that sense of absolute environmental destruction. I’ve worked for many years in mental health services and for some reason it seemed to me that having a mentally ill character involved in the tale, would help to show how desperately vulnerable human beings are.

Today’s tale is called The Monuments. I find it uplifting to think about all the different ways in which the world might end, and how every day, the absurdities of national pride are exposed everywhere, if we only care to look.

Today’s tale is called Killing Me Softly. It’s set in my native Ireland. Now we can all have family troubles from time to time. But what happens when they become homicidal?

Today’s tale is called The Run. Across the road from me lives a woman who goes running four times every day. I don’t know her at all. But I wonder what is going through her head when she is running.
