I am really excited and downright nervous to announce that my team and I have decided to finally run a Beta Test Group for the Soft Tissue Practice Revolution.

Over the last 7 years of my life I have learned, struggled, perfected, re-perfected, tweaked, started all over and probably spent well over 200k on training, learning and skillset acquiring

Needless to say, it has been the best investment I have ever made and wouldn't train the learning and experiences for anything.

On this episode, I essentially go into what the program is, who it is for, how many we are taking and setting the table for what the program will be.

This will be a game changer for anyone in the soft tissue injury space, a way to significantly increase your skill set, business skills, communication, marketing, and sales. My hope is to teach others what I have learned so they can get control of their practice, make more money, have a better life, provide the highest level of care possible so they can help those in pain get better.

This is one of those episodes that I have been thinking about for awhile now and finally got it recorded and some frustrations let out. It is really tough in the world we are in trying to be conservative care musculoskeletal doctors. We want our patients to be happy, to come back and most importantly like us. The problem is when we do this it can actually set us up for a lot of frustrations and failures as we lose respect as the authority figure in the situation, Patient's then think they are experts, know what kind of care they need and dictate when/if they even come in. We tend to lose control of the situation before we even realize is it, all because we want them to be happy and like us. Yes it is important to be likable and a good person to be around, but the real goal is to deliver results and be a leader to the patients. We must hold them accountable, be like a parent and constantly educate them on their injury or if they do too much. We often are held hostage by the patient and forced to kiss too much butt, all in the hopes of keeping them around. It's time to take control back and be the doctor they NEED instead of the one they want or like.

On today's episode, I go into my first trimester of Chiropractic school and how I almost flunked out after getting a 26 on my first neuro test. I ended having to switch to what is called "modified," which essentially means I messed up a class and needed to stay an extra semester to graduate. 

When this happened I thought it was the end of the world, I thought I was a complete moron and thought a lot of the nonsense we were being forced to memorize would be used later on in life and practice. 

Man was I wrong! I still struggled to get through school, mostly because I began to question why we needed to know everything, instead of focusing on what would happen in real life and practice.

The struggle was real, but I am glad I had that experience to learn from and helped me throughout the process of getting my degree. I definitely didn't finish top of my class, but I got through and focused on the classes and topics that were applicable to real life, not the stuff you needed to memorize to pass the boards.

On today's episode I am diving into the wisdom sharing mode, especially when it comes to hiring the right staff and employees. Over the years I did a really lousy job of hiring someone strictly off of need, instead of hiring the right person. One of my favorite business books is "Good To Great," where they go into great detail about getting the people on the bus in the right seat. I have had to let go or fire people over the years and it is never easy, the worst part is that it was my own fault because I didn't set them up for success because I hired out of need. Another big area I lacked in was in creating actual systems and processes to properly onboard and train employees, we kind of just threw them in and gave some lackluster training. I would then respond in a truly poor way of just being a micromanager and wanting to control everything. This just left me pissed off and frustrated, wondering why the person couldn't do a "simple" job. I learned in my wiser years that it was my fault, I didn't train the right way, teach how to do the job and just kept putting people in the wrong positions. So hopefully you can learn from my mistakes,

On today's episode I dive deep into the topic on how you start your day off in the office, specifically how you show up in your practice. Back when I first started in practice back in 2011 I remember the guy I was renting space from would come in like a wrecking ball each day as patients were already there and waiting. He was never prepared and honestly seemed like he was just going through the motions (which he definitely was.) I have always been a person of being prepared and ready to go, that was instilled in me from an early age and has definitely served me well over the years. A lot of people are struggling in practice and they tend to blame a lot of other external forces, (patients, insurance companies, etc,) instead of really taking an internal look at their own actions and realizing they truly aren't prepared to show up better as a doctor. I am not asking you to get there 2 hours before patients, but see what happens if you actually give yourself 30-45 minutes to prepare for the day. Own the morning and win the day!

This episode ended up being a little longer than normal, but it was a really important subject. I always ask the question to other colleagues in my profession about insurance, "do you think insurance is going to get better or worse in the next 5 years?" I think we all know the answer to that one and it has shown more and more over the past few years. Insurance companies only care about cost control and not quality control. So there are two ways you can go:

1. Keep taking shit from insurance companies, playing by their rules and getting less money and dealing with more paperwork and regulations.

2. Understand now is the time to make a shift, get your skillset better, gain more value to ween off this broken system.

I know it's not easy to make the shift, but it will be something of true benefit for your future self and practice.

Today's episode is all about accountability, more specifically for your patients in their practice. Back in 2017, with the help of my mentor Dr. William Brady, who created the Integrative Diagnosis system we came up and tested an idea called a "case fee." Essentially this was getting the patient to commit and pay for all their treatment upfront and paid in full. It was a completely new concept when it comes to applying the components of soft tissue treatment and in the conservative treatment model. It wasn't the nonsense of the decompression guys out there charge 5-10k upfront and tricking patients into care they didn't really need, it was all about getting a commitment from the patient to get fully better and see treatment all the way through. There was a lot of ups and downs, but in the end all the kinks were figured out and it has proven to be an absolute game-changer in the treatment model and getting patients a chance to see a full resolution for their injury!

I went a little off script on this episode as I have been struggling lately with a lot of negative thoughts and self-doubt. Over time we can get really beat up, both mentally and physically being a doctor, between the struggles of day to day practice and just running a business it can all seem quite overwhelming. The key when this happens is to check in with your mission and purpose to get back on track, because if you let it go too long it can be a spiral you don't want to go down. I am trying to be more honest and transparent about everything in my life and business and use this tool of a podcast to help share my struggles and help others as well.

I don't know about anyone else out there but it seems everyday I must get about 10 ads a day from these Chiropractic marketers and "gurus." They continue to pitch the idea of automation and the "set it and forget it" and your practice will magically run by itself and make you never-ending money. I call this the "entrepreneurs wet dream."  Sure, automation can happen for retail and other things, but it can't happen in a service space in way shape or form. You still have to be present and deliver the product and a majority of these liars out there are selling absolute bullshit to people. Yes, you can put systems and processes in place to help things run more efficiently and smooth, but if you think you are going to automate any of the 5 core functions of your business you are completely delusional. I personally believe that all these people out there positioning the "automation" aspects of everything are going to lose in the long term. People are getting sick of the automation and want to have a real and genuine connection with people and feel turned off when they know it isn't a real interaction.
