Softball Fastpitch TV Show

This week we have another part of the fastpitch softball coaches clinic at the PFX Tour in Dallas. This was a great softball clinic with Lisa Fernandez, and Kirk Walker. On this episode they talk about their favorite softball hitting drills. The Fastpitch TV Show is sponsored by SoftballJunk.com Feel free to email questions for future shows to [email protected]. You may also leave questions, or comments on our call in line 209-Softbal.

Need some new hitting drills? In this week's show Kirk Walker and Lisa Fernandez show us their best hitting drills. Kirk likes to work on focusing hitting opposite field. Lisa jumps in with hitting off the tee and making sure that proper mechanics are being used through the entire swing to full extension. Full extension should not be reached until AFTER contact point.

Hitting a change up is quite tricky. every pitcher has their own unique way of pitching and reading the change up takes a lot of work. On this show Kirk Walker and Lisa Fernandez give some pointers on how to prepare for a change up pitch. Kirk suggests working on the motions of swinging, but right before moving the bat to hesitate and with that their body will physically be ready for a change up pitch. Ultimately timing is the biggest factor to hitting a successful change up pitch.

Sue Enquist, UCLA legend, joins us for an interview in this show. Sue began, like most players, playing baseball and when softball was introduced in their town, but in high school she was the first girl in California to play under the protection of Title XI which gave her the exposure to UCLA and her successful career. Sue is now working on XI cases in schools that are experiencing discrimination so that other athletes may have the same opportunities that she had herself. Thank you Sue! A team's defense is not complete until infield bunt defense is perfected. In most bunt defense situations the 3rd baseman has priority over who will get the ball. the 1st baseman, 3rd baseman, and pitcher are not the only infielders involved in bunt defense procedures. The 2nd baseman should also be yelling where the ball is going to based on the angle of the bat and where the pitch is leading to.

Don"t you hate having to spend the time to break in a new glove that you are ready to use right away! First we would condition the glove and then put it in the steamer for less than a minute and then use a mallet and hitting pad to break it down to the shape that your specific needs you desire. How cool is that?!
