How do we experience the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit? Our understanding of the Spirit is often simplistic or unclear. We know that the Spirit can reach into our lives in profound ways, but we don’t quite understand how it happens or what is required of us. As we continue through Romans 8, we take some time to focus on the person, the power, and the promise of the Spirit.

Jesus has taken condemnation upon himself by fulfilling the law. He lived the life we should have lived, and he did it perfectly. He then died the death we should have died, taking the penalty and condemnation we deserved. Therefore, we are no longer bound by the law thanks to His complete sacrifice. Yet, we are still called to righteousness. We are called to live according to the Spirit, and we do so not to fulfill the law but as a response to the new relationship and love we have found in Christ.
