  • 48: Learning to Unite in a Divided World with Jessica Stollings-Holder

Generational expert, Jessica Stollings-Holder is back on Sole Source, but this time she is talking about coming together.

The United States is in a very divided place right now, there is no denying this. People are arguing on just about every topic, yet the President is calling for unity. How can we unite when we can't even listen to the other side?

Jessica is breaking down a four-step process that can help with any disagreement. She believes by retraining your brain to behave just slightly differently we can all have a better outcome when we don't see eye-to-eye with someone.

For more information on this four-step process or to contact Jessica for an in-company training, visit https://jessicastollingsholder.com/.

  • 46: Dr. Ivan Porter with the Mayo Clinic and Rev. Dr. David Green Sr. Talk Decreasing the Spread of COVID-19 in Disadvantaged Communities

COVID-19 is spreading within the Black and Brown communities at a much higher rate than other neighborhoods. What is the reason for this? How come people in these inner city areas are seeing higher rates of the disease, when the disease itself doesn't choose skin color?

The Mayo Clinic is working with churches in the Jacksonville, Florida area to help combat this issue. According to sources there, there are several factors that play a role in the spread of COVID-19 and why numbers are on the rise in these areas. By working together the medical community and the faith community believe they can bring this trajectory down.

Listen to Dr. Ivan Porter, a clinician researcher with the Mayo Clinic and Reverend Dr. David Green Sr. of St. Stephen African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church of Jacksonville, Florida as they discuss the process they are taking and how other communities can do the same.

If you would like to learn more about how COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting the Black and Brown communities in the U.S., check out the Mayo Clinic's Town Hall sessions here: https://www.mayo.edu/research/centers-programs/center-for-health-equity-community-engagement-research/events.

  • 44: Licensed Couples Therapist on Not Losing Your Sh** on Your Spouse During Lockdown

It's a stressful time and it's only made more stressful by being confined into your house with your partner 24/7. We love our partners. We do really, but those small things that used to be sort of annoying now seem to be incredibly irritating.

Licensed couples therapist, Laura Demetrician is speaking with Sole Source about ways to cope and deal with being together all the time, instead of calling it quits or losing your cool on each other.

The original version of this episode aired in July 2020, but as the Sole Source crew works to secure new guests for 2021, enjoy this throwback episode!

  • 43: In-person school and the stress it can cause in a global pandemic with the National Institute of Mental Health

We're all anxious for life to go back to "normal" whatever that will look like. The first step in that process is getting kids back to school, in-person, learning the way they traditionally learned. However, we are still in the midst of a global pandemic and waiting for vaccines to rollout to the general public.

Still, many schools are bringing kids back in the new year to in-person classes. This can cause stress and anxiety for both parents and children, despite excitement about being back to class.

Dr. Krystal Lewis from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) spoke with Sole Source in the fall about these stressors for parents and children, how to recognize them and how to cope with them. Now as kids prepare to go back to school in-person again following the holidays, we thought this would be a good podcast to rerun while we work to line up new guests for you all in 2021!

  • 40: Breaking the Glass Ceiling and Having It All with Beth Borgen

This pandemic has forced many women to choose between career and caring for their families. It seems to be taking an unfair toll on women and according to one article, written in the Atlantic by Anne-Marie Slaughter, "Women still can't have it all."

The article states that in order for women to have it all they must have a flexible profession. We posed this question to our followers in the Sole Source Society and many of you disagreed with the author.

That brings us to our guest for this week's podcast, Beth Borgen, first female president at Lakeland University in its more than 100-year history. Beth is breaking the glass ceiling and shaking things up at the university with a fresh and female perspective and she says it's something she hopes to see other companies implement in the future.
