Without a doubt, the travel industry was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. But 2021 is feeling a lot different than 2020. Restrictions continue to be lifted, more people are getting vaccinated, and the travel industry is bouncing back. Bouncing is the keyword there.
Different airlines and travel agencies are still in recovery just like everyone else. So if you’re planning on traveling, you need to be prepared to be flexible and pivot as flights are changed, times are delayed… etc.
Listen in to Rose Gray, Business Relationship Director at Fox World Travel, as she shares tips and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at what travel is like right now.

Women are strong. We are resilient, and we hold the power to bring new life into this world. And while having a baby is just about as natural as it gets, that doesn’t mean we naturally know what to expect and that we shouldn’t prepare for it. About one-third of birthing people describe their birth experience as traumatic, and too often that’s because we either didn’t know what to expect, we felt like we didn’t have control over what was happening to us, or we felt alone in the process.
The great news is, we can take steps to make sure we have a happy birth day with a positive birth memory.
Sarah Lavonne from Bundle Birth is educating and empowering expecting women and nurses alike to not only make sure labor and delivery ends with a healthy mom and healthy baby but that there’s also a healthy memory to look back on.

A lot of women feel pressured to choose between career and caring for their families. Can women really have it all?
In our Sole Source episode, first published on December 21, 2020, we talked with Beth Borgen, the first female president at Lakeland University in its more than 100-year history. It has become one of our favorites because Beth is breaking the glass ceiling and shaking things up at the university with a fresh and female perspective - truly setting an example to everyone around her about how we can have a fulfilling career while maintaining work-life balance.

You walk into the salon after a long week. Your partner is getting on your nerves, maybe your kids haven’t given you a second of alone time, maybe you live alone and are craving human connection.
“Okay, girl! What are we doing for you today?”
You sink into the salon chair and let it all out to the listening ears of your stylist who is working their magic to bring your hair back to life.
In this episode, we talk with Lauren Mackellar, hairstylist and owner of Studio Meta in Melbourne, Australia, about how important the connection with your hairdresser can become for added support – especially throughout an isolating pandemic.
When you are focused on something, you’re not blinking much, and our eyes have a muscle inside that flexes when you’re looking up close at something. If you’re spending prolonged periods of time looking at a screen like many of us are right now, you’re flexing this muscle all the time without ever giving it a break. Exhausting!
We talk with Dr. Cousineau-Krieger from the National Eye Institute about the increase in eye strain and eye fatigue ophthalmologists have been noticing in the era of COVID-19 when avoiding screens is virtually impossible for many, pun intended.
Listen in for great tips like the 20:20:20 strategy to relax your flex muscle and give your eyes a much-needed break when limiting screen time is just not realistic.

“Women make financial decisions for the benefit of others at the expense of ourselves.”
Oof… That hits hard. While we’ve made great strides, many women still have internalized feelings about needing to care for others first. Now, that alone isn’t a bad thing. But an important piece that cannot be neglected is having awareness of how caring for others is affecting your own finances.
It is risky to leave yourself in the dark and have someone else control your finances. Divorce happens. Death happens. And having an awareness of how much money you have in various assets, how much money you’re bringing in, and how much money you’re spending is not easily outsourceable like hiring someone to mow your lawn or paint your house.

Industries like the manufacturing industry have a similar model when they start trying to market to women. We’ve all seen the shrink it and pink it technique when an item is made a little smaller and turned pink with “for women” slapped on the label.
Our guest host Lisa Cruz talks with Ana Kraft, founder and CEO of Xena Workwear, about her own frustrating experiences as a project engineer who struggled to find work-appropriate attire that wasn’t pink or designed for men.
If you’re looking for functional and professional workwear that is still stylish, browse through Xena Workwear here: xenaworkwear.com.

Opioid and substance use disorders were major issues before COVID-19 shook the world. And while everyone is at risk, those already struggling with substance abuse were thrown into a perfect storm.
Experts have tragically observed that a year of isolation and social distancing due to the pandemic has aggravated the Opioid Crisis. In many ways, the stresses of the pandemic pushed people who may have been making progress with their opioid use disorder back toward substance dependency to cope with all that is happening.
In this episode, we're talking with Dr. Halena Gazelka, an anesthesiologist who serves on the Opioid Stewardship Program Subcommittee at the Mayo Clinic.
If you need help with an opioid or a substance use disorder, reach out to the Mayo Clinic at https://www.mayoclinic.org/.
