Chey, Kereama and Hinurewa hosted a sit-down with the Independents at the Iwi Chairs Forum!
Unfortunately, Mariameno Kapa-Kingi was unable to make it, so we had Tākuta Ferris join us in the whare for a candid and insightful kōrero with our panel and Iwi Chairs!
Together, they tackled some important pātai about politics, representation, and the future of Aotearoa.
In this kōrero, we ask:
Why did he leave Te Pāti Māori? 👀
He shares his honest whakaaro, beginning with...
"Ehara i te mea i wehe au. Heoi anō, kei konei tātou!"
What challenges does he face as an independent?
Is it really all doom and gloom?
Where can we find hope and inspiration?
Why is backing an independent still a new concept for many Māori?
What are the three key priorities he's looking to advance through this campaign?
If the election goes either way, how does an independent operate and make an impact?
This is a conversation about leadership, independence, and what meaningful representation can look like for our people.
Watch the full kōrero and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

We’re continuing our Iwi Chairs series, sharing the kōrero held at the National Iwi Chairs Forum as Aotearoa heads towards the General Election.
This time, S4TP sat down with Green Party Co-Leaders Chloe Swarbrick and Marama Davidson for a 30 minute kōrero on the future they see for our communities and the country.
We hear their take on the 'thirst trap baddies' campaign, and tap into more serious discussions on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, economic development, social investment, housing, and getting more people engaged in the democratic process. Nothing was off the table.
Our iwi leaders in the room asked about the laws they would repeal, the changes they want to see, and what they believe is needed to create better outcomes for whānau.
With election season well underway, what stood out to you from this kōrero?

Back in July at the Iwi Chairs Forum, we sat down with Te Pāti Māori Co-Leaders Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer for a candid kōrero on the state of the movement, the challenges it has faced, and the future they see for whānau, hapū and iwi.
They reflect on supporter fatigue, whether the movement is back on track, and the role Te Pāti Māori has to play as Aotearoa heads towards the General Election. We also put the tough questions to them, including Whaea Debbie's view on whether the Te Pāti Māori president should step down.
The discussion covers Te Pāti Māori's key priorities, from improving wages and Māori health outcomes to advancing te taiao, renewable energy, and regional development. They also share their strategy for turning the current Government into a one-term Government.
Finally, Rawiri and Debbie speak openly about the challenges of the past year, the lessons they've learned along the way, and why some decisions and events unfolded as they did.

We’re less than 100 days out from the General Election, e te whānau. So, what are our iwi leaders thinking as Aotearoa heads to the polls?
At the National Iwi Chairs Forum, we sat down with Mook Hohneck, Marama Royal and Jamie Tuuta for a kōrero about where things are at for iwi and where we go from here.
They talk about the relationship between iwi and the Crown right now, the importance of taking action and what that can look like for whānau and iwi, and continuing to drive iwi development regardless of who holds the seats in Parliament.
With an election fast approaching, what matters most for iwi over the next 100 days and beyond?

Straight from the National Iwi Chairs Forum 👀
Hinurewa, Chey and Kereama had 30 minutes with Labour Party MPs Chris Hipkins and Willie Jackson to hear where Labour stands, what they’ve learned from their last time in government, and what they would do differently if given another opportunity to lead.
Willie shares his whakaaro on the kupu kotahitanga 👀, while Chippy breaks down Labour’s four key priorities heading towards the next election.
Iwi leaders also put the pātai directly to them: If Labour gets back into government, what legislation would they revoke straight away?
And after entering government in 2017, what lessons have they taken from that experience? Chris and Willie reflect on their time in government, what they could have done differently, and how Labour is preparing this time around.
Mātakitaki mai! And let us know your whakaaro in the comments.
