A wrap-up with Kereama, Chey, and Hinurewa following our sit-down kōrero with Te Pāti Māori co-leaders, Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer.
What can we take away from that interview? Is there a path forward? And more importantly, what could come out of the AGM in December and should it be livestreamed?
Plus, Nau Mai te Hapa - what does Takuta Anaha Hiini have for us this week?
Thanks for all the tautoko in the comments! We love hearing your whakaaro.

Each week, Tākuta Anaha Hiini puts our reo to the test calling out our hapa (mistakes) from last week. No two weeks are ever the same, and the learning never stops!
Tame Malcolm joins the kōrero this week and drops a new whakataukī (fittingly about te taiao): 'Me rātā tō tupu, kia rātā tō tū.' It speaks to resilience... that to stand tall like the rātā, we must first endure the struggles it faces to grow.

A BIG wānanga with environmental advocate and conservationist Tame Malcolm to unpack laws around te taiao and what it really means for te iwi Māori.
This follows on from our kōrero with Tama Potaka about Section 4 of the Conservation Act - one of the strongest Treaty clauses in Aotearoa’s legal system. With the current government signalling changes to Treaty references across legislation, what would happen if this clause were ever removed?
Tame helps us understand the intention of the Act, and the practical realities of how decisions about our whenua and wai are made. It's complex, it's layered, and it's a kaupapa that we all need to be across!

Right now, Māori initiatives are being defunded, agencies restructured, and Treaty commitments rolled back.
We speak with Tama Potaka (Minister for Māori Development, Conservation, Whānau Ora, Māori Crown Relations and Associate Minister of Housing) to ask how he and this government are working to protect Te Tiriti o Waitangi at a time when so many of their actions suggest the opposite.
We ask Tama for his stance on the Te Mana o te Wai claim and Hinurewa challenges the Minister directly about Section 4 of the Conservation Act, which requires the Crown to give effect to the principles of Te Tiriti. So, will he make the pledge to uphold that clause?
