When she first moved into the small house in her early twenties, nothing about it felt unusual. It was older, a little mismatched in places, but comfortable enough to feel like home. Aside from the occasional odd noise or fleeting movement out of the corner of her eye, everything seemed normal.

Until one afternoon. After coming home early and falling asleep on the couch, she was suddenly jolted awake—not by a sound, but by the unmistakable feeling of being shoved. Before she could even process it, she was on the floor, disoriented and trying to understand what had just happened.

Moments later, the shelf mounted above the couch came crashing down exactly where she had been lying. It was the timing that never made sense. The crash didn’t wake her—the shove did.

And to this day, she still doesn’t know what moved her… or why it happened when it did.
