Something To Gnaw On

this episode is a continuation of Part 4, and is a deeper dive into what it means to "BE CAREFUL" in Isaiah 7.

This episode will have a different presentation to it....   it will still have the parable style story, but we’re going to go through this story on AHAZ in a verse by verse commentary style.

I’m excited to see what God speaks to people through this series ..... today the message addresses our simple obedience in taking Gods message to those who need it most, but deserve it least.

Be blessed!!!!

This week is just a quick update on some happenings with the study and the podcast.   Next week we'll pick up with King Ahaz and ....... good details on this episode, please take a listen and stay up to speed on podcast events and processes.

God Bless
Nate

This episode is the first of a few episodes that involve on of Israel's most notoriously evil kings, and his interaction with Gods man..... Isaiah.  If ever there was a wicked man in leadership, this guy would be on the top of the list.  But that's not the story.

The story here is not that it would be easy for anyone to dismiss him and throw him under the proverbial moral bus, .... no, the story is that a Holy and Loving God deals with Ahaz in an incredibly calculated and merciful manner, without diminishing the necessity and use of judgment.  That is the story!

This is the story of a step by step encounter with God, and ultimately I wish Ahaz had responded better, but it certainly highlights a just God.   All that being said, this first episode on Ahaz is simply a background study on his kingdom, and the general moral climate in Judah and Jerusalem.  Call this 'the set-up'!

Without question, there are a few challenges this episode, but we will really get into some good stuff next week, the nitty gritty back and forth between Ahaz - Isaiah - and The Almighty.

If you want to read ahead for next week, check out  Isaiah 7, 2 Kings 16, & 2 Chronicles 28.

Enjoy!   Be challenged!!  And get into the word for yourself!!!

"""Get into the Word, and let the Word get into you!"""

wondered

After spending weeks on the "Crash Course Through The Old Testament" it's time to take the 'scenic-route' and spend a little time digging into the book of Isaiah.  This will not be a verse by verse, deep dive into the book... it will be more of a drive-by bible study that tackles some of the more major themes that weave their way through the book.

This episode begins by looking at the relationships, and settings that Isaiah is ministering from.  Chapter 1 begins by identifying the kings that Isaiah served under, and so we will begin looking at them to get an idea on what's going on in the kingdom during Isaiah's ministry.  (and one fun element in this episode will be the time we spend digging into some archaeological details that really cause part of this story to come to life!)

We will also dig into some of the minor prophets and see how they are interconnected.  And, as always, there will be some solid application that I believe will challenge everyone who takes the time to listen in.... I thoroughly believe it will be a blessing to you!!!

Blessings
Nate

I have wanted to re-air this episode for a while.  It is both fun, and has a solid message.  Listen in and enjoy an episode that tackles our human tendency to delay action when presented with truth.  And the characters in this episode is yours truly, as an 8th grade punk, and a guy from John 3 by the name of Nicodemus.

(Next week I anticipate getting back into the sub-series from A Crash Course Through The Old Testament called "The Scenic Route Through The Book Of Isaiah".   I will be hitting on some of the major themes throughout the book.... and I am not sure if I should be suprised at how timely it is in our culture, but I am pretty sure you will find it that way also!!!

Backstory:  two days before this episode posted, I had NOTHING ready!   I had plenty in my head, but nothing on paper.   That night in church I sensed God saying ‘let’s do something different.  Instead of something scripted, it’s time to shoot from the hip and just talk about what I have seen, what I have heard, and what I have experienced over the last few years at James River Church.’  ( disclaimer:  I’m just an average member, not  staff member, and I share this if my own volition).

So this is what this is about..... a testimony of sorts...... on short notice.

I thought I would be able to just share...  But it broke me as I relived just a FEW of the things that have happened over the last couple of years.   It wrecked me.... so please forgive my pauses and my tears, but in the process I pray that this episode will ignite your faith in our God and Father who is mightily at work!!!

 God Bless

My conversation with Luke Taylor continues on this episode.  Luke has a podcast called Cross-References, and he has about 50 episodes specifically on the book of Ezekiel.   As has been the case with this entire series, we will be moving pretty fast over some topics, but when the dust settles, I believe you will have a good understanding of it's layout, and also a solid base of hope that is found in the prophets.  Amid the judgements in this book, there is much to be encouraged and uplifted by!!!

Listen in and enjoy the conversation!
