Something To Gnaw On

Soooooooo, the opportunity presented itself to have a conversation with Luke Taylor about the Book of Ezekiel..... and I jumped all over it.  Luke has a podcast called Cross-References, and he has about 50 episodes specifically on the book of Ezekiel.   So this week we are going to abandon the study in Isaiah, skip over Jeremiah and Lamentations, and dive into a conversation about Ezekiel.

Listen in and enjoy the conversation!

In a crash course throught the Old Testament, I had the totally misguided idea that in the same way that I busted through some of the other books, that I could do the same with the Prophets, and Isaiah.

Well folks...... I can't tell you right now how many episodes I'll be doing in this book, but this crash course is slowing down to the speed of a slow-motion train wreck as we dig in to what some call the 5th Gospel, or the Mini-Bible.

This book is packed with so much.... I will probably still do it a disservice with the speed at which I run through it, but as is always my goal, I hope it spurs you on to dig in further for yourself!

Enjoy, and be blessed!!

Uncover the depth of the Old Testament prophets with me, Nate Vainio, as we traverse the themes of judgment and hope that are intricately woven into their divine messages. It's a journey that promises to reshape your understanding of God's holiness and the significance of salvation. The prophets weren't just harbingers of impending doom; they balanced their warnings with promises of restoration and salvation. Through a compelling story of a preacher's quest for awakening his congregation's faith, we explore how contemporary culture often sidesteps the uncomfortable reality of God's justice, choosing instead a cozier but incomplete image of His love. By the end of this episode, you'll see that the toughest divine words are spoken from a place of love, with the purpose of igniting a profound transformation within us.

This episode goes beyond just listening; it equips you with practical strategies to elevate your study of the prophetic scriptures. I'll lay out the roadmap for understanding the significance of context, translation, and application when engaging with these ancient texts. By employing tools like timelines and embracing translations such as the NLT and The Message, you'll gain a solid baseline for digging into any of the writings from the Prophets.  And next week we'll use these tools to dig into Isaiah.

Think back to a moment from your childhood that still stings – for me, Nate Vainio, it was a seemingly trivial reading mishap that echoed far beyond the classroom walls. Join me as I unravel how a burst of laughter at a mispronounced word can shape a 'don't care' shell, designed to shield from vulnerability but often leading to a spiritual disconnect. In today's heartfelt episode, we traverse the shadows of our past to see how God longs for us to take it to Him!

As we navigate these waters together, we'll reflect on the poignant story of Ephraim from Jeremiah 31:18-20, where a blend of deep remorse and divine compassion teaches us that hurt has a place in God's plan for restoration, not shame. Pain, though an unwelcome companion, can often be the compass that directs us back to a path of  healing.  I'd challenge you to embrace life's uncomfortable exposures with faith in God's unwavering grace and capacity to what we think of as impossible.

This weeks episode continues through the fast paced overview of the Old Testament.   This week we look at the book of Job, a unique book in the OT Line-up.

Take a listen and get a grasp on one of the oldest questions people have ...  "WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE?"   and I would submit that a great follow-up question would be "HOW DO GOOD PEOPLE HANDLE LIFE WHEN BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO THEM?"   And those answers will be covered quickly in this episode.

Are you prepared to uncover the spiritual significance behind the season of Christmas? This special holiday episode is a break from our recent pursuit of the Old Testament, starting at the opposite end of the book: The Book of Revelation. We bring parallels from two seemingly different realms - one, a brave man who dared to infiltrate Auschwitz to combat the Nazis and the other being Jesus' divine counter-offensive against evil. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the significance of Jesus' birth within the context of spiritual warfare and the devil's relentless attempts to steal, kill, and destroy.

In the next part, we converse about the ultimate gift that Christmas presents to us - salvation through Jesus Christ.  And our journey concludes with the words of Jesus from John 14:27, a promise of His unwavering peace that provides us courage and strength to face every possible trial. So, tune in and let this special episode be a source of comfort  and encouragement to you and your loved ones this Christmas season.
