This lil one is all about Inktober, and some of the things I've learnt over the first five days. I talk about How Scary it can be to Commit to an Ink Line knowing you can't erase it, Some of my Smudging Struggles and how Pencil Drawing seems to be the Most Important Art Skill.
I wrote a more detailed blog post about Inktober Days 1 to 5, which also includes Drawings, a Video and various links to some of the Inspirational Artists I've found so far, but this episode also covers a couple other topics, like the lil art tip, which is
*BOOOOOOOOOONGGGG*
lil ART TIP TIME
A SCRAP PIECE OF PAPER CAN BE USED TO CHECK YOUR PROPORTIONS WHEN DRAWING :)
When rendering a realistic drawing freehand, without any grid lines, I find it handy to keep a lil Scrap Piece of Paper by my side, so I can check my measurements and proportions from time to time.
Say I'm drawing an eye and I think, hmm, something doesn't look right here. I can pick up the Scrap Paper, place it onto my Reference Photo, and mark off two dots along the edge of the paper, one at the start of the eye, the other at the end.
I than move the scrap paper onto my drawing, to see if the eye I've drawn syncs up with the dots.
The fun thing is, when they sync up first time, it creates a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside :) Sometimes they don't, but this is good too, because you start learning where you're going wrong, and slowly, over time, your accuracy when drawing will improve :)
"BOOOOOONNNNGGGGG"
I also throw in a lil consciousness theory at the end, which I thought about after watching an interview Elon Musk did with Joe Rogan, which made me have this strange feeling that the Future could be the Past!
Hope you like this one.
