About DJ TREY /

Catch a DJ Trey set or two for the songs that people love but have forgotten over the course of time. Since starting at the age of 14 Ashley Heuvel aka DJ Trey has always dug the roots of R&B and Hip-Hop, using his Uncle's vinyl records! Respecting where music has come from and how it got to where it is now.

Diversely playing in styles of R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul & Funk (while dabbling in Disco, Jazz, Reggae & House). With a style that gives the crowd some of what they love, some of what they used to love & some of what they should love. Entertaining and enlightening. Engaging in the better of the unknown, he likes to focus more on what he believes, people should be listening to, as opposed to what they 'think' they want to listen to.

Stephen Allkins (Love Tattoo) — Special Birthday Set 🎂🎶

Recorded live at Soul of Sydney featuring Marcel Vogel, September 29, 2013

🕒 Time: 90 mins

🎧 DJ: Sydney Disco Legend Stephen Allkins (Love Tattoo)

🎵 Style: Funk, Disco, Acid-Jazz & Early House Vibes

📍 Location: Secret courtyard in the Sydney CBD

“New York had Larry Levan, Chicago had Ron Hardy, Sydney has Stephen Allkins…”

We were absolutely honoured to host a special daytime disco celebration with Stephen Allkins, one of the true pioneers of Sydney’s underground dance scene. Recorded live during his birthday set, this mix captures pure warmth, groove and soul — the essence of Sydney’s golden era of house and disco.

About Stephen Allkins

Stephen Allkins, also known by his production moniker Love Tattoo, is one of the foundations upon which Sydney’s electronic and disco scene was built. From his early days as a DJ in the warehouses, loft parties and late-night clubs of the 1980s, to his influence across the 1990s and beyond, Allkins has continually shaped the sound and identity of dance culture in Australia.

As one of the original resident DJs of the iconic clubs Kinselas and The Hordern Pavilion, Stephen brought the energy and sophistication of New York, Chicago and London’s underground movements to Sydney audiences. His sets were famous for bridging the gap between soul, disco, house and newer electronic sounds, inspiring generations of Australian DJs and producers.

Beyond the decks, Stephen is best known for his production alias Love Tattoo, with releases on respected labels such as Ministry of Sound, Hussle Recordings and Derivative. His 2001 classic “Bass Has Got Me Movin’” became one of the defining moments of Australian house, earning him international recognition and solidifying his reputation as a producer with deep musical roots and broad creative vision.

Today, Stephen remains a revered figure within Sydney’s music community. His sets cover decades of music discovery — always soulful, always connected to the dancefloor. Whether guiding crowds through rare groove edits, deep disco cuts or euphoric house anthems, Stephen Allkins continues to embody the spirit of togetherness, joy and authenticity that has defined him throughout his career.

🎂 This recording captures his 90-minute birthday set warming up for Marcel Vogel, held in a secret courtyard tucked between the buildings of Sydney’s CBD — a moment of pure sunshine, community and groove.
