SOUL OF SYDNEY Podcast #376

DJ ADVERSE – NYD 2020 Party Jams (Live Set)

One of our crowd favourites, DJ ADVERSE, came through and absolutely shut it down with this New Year’s Day live set – rocking nothing but high-powered jams across 80s–90s Soul, Hip Hop, R&B, and New Jack Swing.

Recorded live in the back room on two wobbling turntables, this set captures that raw, unfiltered block party energy we live for at Soul of Sydney. From smooth soul cuts to golden era Hip Hop, to R&B anthems and feel-good party jams, DJ Adverse kept the dancefloor locked from start to finish.

Expect classics and crowd-shakers from the likes of:

✨ Biggie

✨ Naughty By Nature

✨ Zhane

✨ A Tribe Called Quest

✨ Mary J. Blige

✨ Boyz II Men

✨ Bobby Brown

… plus a stack more party favourites for the heads.

DJ Adverse didn’t just mix tracks – he scratched, juggled, and flipped his way through one of the dopest NYD sessions we heard that day. It was pure heavy vibes, old-school flavour, and a reminder of why he’s such a weapon behind the decks.

💥 Hit play, turn it up, and relive the NYD 2020 backroom vibes with us.

SOUL OF SYDNEY 345:

DJ MK1 sent us this mixtape back in 2009 as a homage to 30 years of conscious hip hop goodness.

Mista Killa:’Peace, Unity, Love & Having Fun’ – A Mix Tape Celebration of over 30 Years of Conscious Hip Hop

Blessing Friends The current state of Hip-Hop has gotten too far away from its roots. Hip-hop has been tainted by commercialization, marketing and repetitive radio stations across the world. Come with me as I take you on a musical journey through the last 30 years of conscious Hip Hop.

Starting from the 70’s when Hip Hop was experimenting and breaking boundaries, Improvising and expressing itself for the sake of art, not for profit. The mixtape goes on to explore the 80’s, 90’s and Today.

Mista Killa Presents: Peace Unity Love and Having Fun Big ups to Kool Herc, Grandmixer DST, Jeru the Damaja and Mirrah.
