If you situate yourself in such a way that you can see the universe as a cosmic schoolhouse, "everything is meant for teaching me something and so that I can improve myself" - if I take it like that, then I take whatever happens to me as a way to learn something valuable. We may not see it at first, but if we're able to ask the question, we avoid the default question, which is, 'Why me?' And this leads to a sense of victimhood, which takes a long time to come out of—a lot of coaching and help and so forth.

But if we're able to, in the moment, deal with whatever happens to us by asking the question, 'What's this meant to teach me?' it profoundly changes the way we interact with the world. This is self-help 101, isn't it? Say yes, and I'll explain why. Because every person on the planet, in any book, recording, or lecture, will say this next phrase, which is, 'It's not what happens to you; it's what you do about what happens to you,' and the essence of that is, 'What is the lesson?

How can he be satisfied in the self through this gratitude ? That is mentioned in one of the verses that Uddhava says at the very end of the Uddhava-gītā (SB 11.29.6), "naivopayanty apacitiṁ kavayas taveśa brahmāyuṣāpi kṛtam ṛddha-mudaḥ smarantaḥ," in which he says, 'When I think of you, Kṛṣṇa, the way you take care of me from within and without, I'm so grateful that I couldn't express that gratitude. Even if I had a few life spans of Brahmā, I wouldn't come to the end of it.' And based on that, one of our ācāryas says the devotees remember Kṛṣṇa's promise in the Bhagavad-gītā: "sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ. I'm here for you. I'll deliver you from all the problems. Just give them to me."

And Jīva Gosvāmī says that the devotee always remembers Kṛṣṇa's promise. And in that, while we're chanting japa, we take the time to notice the conveyor belt. Just take shelter of Kṛṣṇa's mercy that he says, 'Just hand over your problems to me and take shelter of me. I'll absolve you of all these difficulties.' And then notice that you're not your problems.

If we look at our lifetime and our lifespan as a time to invest, if you stay in the market, no matter what you may be - 'sukhe duḥkhe bhulo nā'ko,' you may be happy or distressed. You may think, 'Well, I'm no good. I don't have a taste.' It doesn't matter. You stay in the market. It's not timing the market; it's how much time you spend in the market, and if you just stay the course, it's already chalked out. Do your due diligence and figure out that this is the only market that really counts. The other markets, there's nothing there at the end. If you go to withdraw your money—and we used to do this play back in the old days—where somebody was working hard their whole life, and then at the end, when they went to take all their money out of the bank, they had the wrong bank account. There was nothing in it, but this is the real bank account.

So, all of you, the painstaking way in which you flew across oceans and time zones, had to go through security about 50 times to get here, poked and prodded and had to decide what to bring with you. It's an investment, and one of the investments that Caitanya Mahāprabhu especially recommends out of 64 different mutual funds or limbs of bhakti that you can invest in. He said there are five main ones. If you get in these, he said, then you're going to be spiritually wealthy, and of the five, one of them is coming and staying in the Holy Dhāma. So, congratulations to our spiritual investors who have joined here today. And this replica of Vṛndāvana is non different from Vṛndāvana, and that Vṛndāvana is marked by the mood of service and surrender to Kṛṣṇa, which is the only source of happiness for any soul.

So, here's your homework. Get a legal pad and a pen. Are you with me so far? What's the first part? Are you going to do it? I'm not convinced. All right, okay, so sit down and write at the top, 'Things I Do.' You got that so far? That's three words only. It's not so hard, 'Things I Do.' And then you'll make a list on the left-hand side. Leave a little space on the right. Make a list on the left-hand side of all the things I do. So, let's name 10 things that you all do: eat, sleep, what, work? Okay, that's it. Actually, no. Drive, shower, cook, read, sing, fight, what? Walk the dog, okay, I didn't get that one. Speak. Okay, that's 10.

If you, if you go on with the list, and you think of all the things you do, you're going to come into the thousands. Okay, so that's your first. What's the first part? Get a legal pad and a pen. You're going to do it. I'm not convinced. Okay, so then you write at the top. What do you write at the top? 'Things I Do,' and then on the left-hand side, what are you going to put? What are you going to write? As many things as you can think of. That's why it's a legal pad. You can turn the page, go down the other side. Okay, next is on the right-hand side. You can write Kṛṣṇa, K R S N A, or K R I S H N A, or you can get a picture of Kṛṣṇa and paste it on that side of the page. Okay, good so far. Then go with your pen, and from each item that you do, make a line from there and connect it to Kṛṣṇa. And think about it. How can we connect to Kṛṣṇa? Like, what things you mentioned? Who said drive? You said, you said drive. So, what could you do to connect your drive to Kṛṣṇa?"

These are thoughts to collect and keep on track. An author named Collins wrote the book 'From Good to Great' regarding corporations, and similarly, we should have our own book 'From Good to Great in Japa' and keep track of what it is that practically helps us to trend towards great japa, instead of trending back the other way towards poor japa, and poor japa that we fade away. It's one of the main processes. It is the main process for advancing on the path of bhakti. So let's try a little more.

Appreciate The Personality of Godhead: So, when Kṛṣṇa speaks, His words illuminate. Kṛṣṇa is also not a normal person because He can be present in many places at once. In fact, He's ubiquitous. He's within every atom, and He's within all of our hearts. We all have a personal relationship with Kṛṣṇa, just as one may have a personal relationship in this world with someone as a friend, or sometimes as a parent to a child, and sometimes we have a romantic relationship. So Kṛṣṇa also has relationships with each soul. In the Bhagavad-gītā, Kṛṣṇa also describes that we're personal. That is, not only is Kṛṣṇa a person and a perfect person at that, but He also expands Himself into unlimited living entities. We say 'living entities'; it sounds abstract, but we're also persons. Are you a person? You sure? How do you know? Well, Kṛṣṇa says in the Bhagavad-gītā that when He's describing to Arjuna on the battlefield that He's a person, Arjuna is a person, and He says all these warriors that have gathered here are also persons, and they were persons in the past, and they'll be persons in the future.

If you ever feel bewildered, don't feel so bad, because you're dealing with a very powerful force. But there is a solution, and it's given in the Bhagavad-gītā by Kṛṣṇa Himself. Near the end, He says, "What verse number is this? It's 18.58— 'mac-cittaḥ sarva-durgāṇi mat-prasādāt tariṣyasi, atha cet tvam ahaṅkārān na śroṣyasi vinaṅkṣyasi': 'If you become conscious of Me, you will pass over all the obstacles of conditioned life by My grace. If, however, you do not work in such consciousness but act through false ego, not hearing Me, you will be lost.'"

This is a strong case for chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa every day. Number one, chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa means to take shelter of Kṛṣṇa through His names. It's a direct process. And if you ever feel bewildered by māyā—and who doesn't from moment to moment—the only solution ultimately is to take shelter of Kṛṣṇa, and the best way is through chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. So take full shelter of chanting the holy name, especially completing at least 16 rounds a day if you've taken that vow. And Śrīla Prabhupāda made many assurances that if you do that and follow the four regulative principles, māyā can't touch you. That's amazing because māyā is so powerful, she bewilders everyone. But if we take shelter in that proper way, then we'll notice for ourselves. It's not that somebody else has to tell us—we'll see it for ourselves.

Regarding association, Śrīla Prabhupāda, before he was initiated, was pursuing getting initiated from his spiritual master, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, and he was very busy. When his guru Mahārāja had a yātrā for 10 days, he only got to go for one day. And he went there and took such advantage of the opportunity that he had in that one day that his guru remembered him when he went to Allahabad. He said, "Oh, I know him. He's the one who sits up front and listens, and he won't go away," as he took such advantage of it.

So I recommend taking time with a legal pad and a pen, and just take time for yourself to prioritize your life. Write down all the things that are important to you for a while, think about it, and then consider it over some time, and reorganize the list. When you put that together for your spiritual practices and everything you have to do, then you'll have a clearer idea that when the opportunities come, these are what's most important to me.

But we'll always have more opportunities than we'll have time for anyway, and that's not bad.
