As a Buddhist we all know about the five precepts but do you know about the seven virtuous vows?
When Lord Sakka was a human being, he adopted seven vows which helped him achieve his current status as Ruler of two Heavenly Worlds. These vows helped him preserve his virtue and avoid bad Kamma. Regular people like us can uphold these vows too and this episode will guide you in your path to becoming more virtuous.

Always trying to be the best of the best? Being competitive is ingrained in us because we live in a society that rewards it. The real question is what truly drives this competition?
Competition is commonly derived from jealousy, we always focus on external targets like what the other person has. It is important to shift the attention away from other people and focus on ourselves instead. We need to learn to eliminate our jealousy, develop appreciative joy for other people’s accomplishments and strive to be a better version of ourselves.
You should only compete with yourself.

Stop!
Are you mindlessly scrolling through this webpage or other social media?
It’s easy to fall into these unhealthy patterns because we have an innate desire to fulfil cravings and please our senses. As a result we can find ourselves in dangerous situations.
However we should be mindful of our habits and utilise social media for good. It’s also a tool that gives us access to Buddhist resources and therefore we’re able to better ourselves.
Here’s some links that we mentioned in episode:

We all know it’s important to have good friends, but what does that really mean?
In Buddhism we’re able to separate friends into 3 categories. So we can classify our friends and the type of friend we are to other people. It is critical to recognise the bad friends in our life and how we should react in such situations.
