The Ratinger Hof at the northern end of Düsseldorf's old town was the German "CBGB" in the 1970s and 1980s - the epicentre of punk in the Federal Republic. Countless bands formed here and made music history: DAF, Fehlfarben or the women's punk band Östro 430. 

At the end of 2021, the "Kulturbanausen" moved into the "Hof". The makers want to pick up where the experimental, subcultural and provocative spirits of the glory days left off. "Kulturbanausen im Ratinger Hof" is a cooperative of committed people who want to bring exciting, non-conformist culture back to Düsseldorf's old town. How this works, how the idea for this project came about and why it is necessary to create an open cultural space for everyone, three of the Kulturbanausen tell us in the new episode of "Sound of urbanana: Talks!".

Der Ratinger Hof am nördlichen Ende der Düsseldorfer Altstadt war in den 1970e und 1980er Jahren das deutsche „CBGB“ – das Epizentrum des Punk in der Bundesrepublik. Zahllose Bands haben sich hier gegründet und Musikgeschichte geschrieben: DAF, Fehlfarben oder die Frauen-Punkband Östro 430.

Ende 2021 zogen die „Kulturbanausen“ in den „Hof“ ein. Die Macherinnen und Macher wollen an den experimentellen, subkulturellen und provokativen Geister der glorreichen Zeiten anknüpfen. „Kulturbanausen im Ratinger Hof“ ist eine Genossenschaft aus Engagierten, die aufregende, unangepasste Kultur in die Düsseldorfer Altstadt zurückbringen will. Wie das funktioniert, wie die Idee zu diesem Projekt aufkam und warum es notwendig ist, einen offenen kulturellen Raum für alle zu schaffen, erzählen drei der Kulturbanausen in der neuen Folge von „Sound of urbanana: Talks!“

She plays in Cologne's most exciting and best-dressed pop punk band Angelika Express. And is a radio producer for the Radio Köln Group, among others. Music fans love her podcast "Heimspiel", in which she asks prominent German pop stars for musical insider tips. 

In our new episode of "sound of urbanana: Talks!", Annick Manoukian tells us how she became a musician against all odds in the Southern Palatinate, what deal got her into the band Angelika Express and why Cologne Mülheim is more exciting than its reputation

Depending on your  point of view, Ebertplatz is a social meeting place, an "anxiety space",  an art hotspot, a real-life laboratory, an eyesore or an architectural  fascination. Since 2018, the initiative "Unser Ebertplatz e.V." has been  revitalising the square in the north of Cologne's city centre with a  cultural programme and civic engagement. However, the future of  Ebertplatz is still insecure. In a two-part podcast, Urbanana listens to  what has happened on the square in recent years and what concepts there  are for its further development. Here comes Part 2 on the history and  present of Ebertplatz. Representatives of the galleries, the Eigelstein  citizens' association, the Alte Feuerwache cultural centre, the Faculty  of Architecture at Cologne University of Applied Sciences, the city  planning office and the cultural office of the city of Cologne have  their say. The initiative from Witten breaks down established hierarchies and offers a stage and a de-hierarchized space for artists* who do not identify as cis* people or are not white.
