I. HIS CONDUCT

He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

None of us are perfect. We make mistakes. We do things we later wished we had not done. We don’t do things we later wished we had. But the one who is serious about his relationship to his Lord and to His church strives to do the right thing.

II. HIS COMMUNICATION

He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

He is concerned that those who abide at the tabernacle are careful not to use their tongues against one another.

III. HIS CHARACTER

In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

Just about anyone can pretend to be a good man for a little while.

Government is the second of three institutions God created:

* Marriage

* Government and

* Church

 

Government is necessary because of the corrupt nature.

There won’t be a perfect government until Christ comes again.

 

Spiritual songs are generally an expression of the Christian experience. Consequently any of the spiritual songs of the past contain an element of suffering. While Christians in American have had little of it for the better part of our country’s history, suffering is a significant part of Christian life.

 

I want to be the kind of Christian that

• Walks worthy of the salvation Jesus gave me

• Is obedient to the commands Jesus teaches me and

• Wants to live so others know what Jesus did for me

We associate the words “conditional” and “unconditional” with the opposing views of salvation that are held by the Calvinists and the Armenians.

Calvinists preach a doctrine called “unconditional election.”

The idea of it is that, if you are elected by God for salvation, you will go to heaven regardless of what you do or do not do concerning Christ.

Armenians preach a doctrine called “conditional election.”

Their claim is that a person’s salvation is based entirely upon what they choose to do with Christ. You are saved of your own free will, and conversely, once saved, you can choose, by will or by actions, to “unsave” yourself.

Like almost everything in the Bible, the truth isn’t found in one extreme or another but somewhere in the middle.

* Anyone can be saved

* But only those who, by their free will call on Christ are saved

 

Times were hard.

Paul was about to give his life for Christ. And his good news to Timothy was that he was going to have to do the same before this whole thing was over.

There is one theme that recurs in each and every chapter. That theme is the Word of God. And it is no wonder. God’s Word IS the one piece of heaven we can hold in our hands today.

* It is not a religious relic

* It is not a spiritual “rabbit’s foot”

The Bible, together with the local church, is the only thing in this world that can get you through this world. What you and I do with the Bible will determine how successfully we make it through the “hard times” that very much appear to be approaching.

3. PETER AND JOHN HELPED A GUY WHO WAS CRIPPLED

4. PHILIP FOUND A GUY READING THE BIBLE

Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

6. EACH OF US NEEDS TO FIND A WAY

To be a witness and to see some saved.

Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

The sailors had done all they could do. They had labored and, to the best of their ability, plied their skills against Euroclydon. So they cast their anchors and “wished for the day.”

Daylight would not solve their problem. It could very well spell their doom. But at least they could look their problem in the eyes. They could confront their situation head on.

No good thing comes from hiding in the shadows of difficulty. Regardless of the storm we face we are always best to face it and deal with it.

Every once in awhile I will receive a survey. It will be something like “why do I prefer this particular deodorant, or some silly thing like that. The first part of the survey is always a series of questions meant to establish a baseline and determine the demographics of their survey audience. They ask questions like general age, educational background, ethnic background, annual income and etc. one of those questions regards marital status and it is not uncommon for that question to be multiple choice:

* Married

* It’s complicated

No it’s not. It is not complicated. A person is either married or single. The only thing that complicates the point is that some people don’t wish to be identified according to the obvious. 

This demonstrates a key issue in our world today. Walking in integrity, doing the right thing, is not complicated at all. It is as simple as accepting the authorities that determine right and wrong, and choosing right over wrong. What complicates the situation is that we want to reconcile what is right with what we want.
