Michael Henaghan is a Director of Photography based in New York City. Originally from Delaware, he has spent 5 years creating images across various formats and platforms. His work has taken him to 10 different countries, creating films in 3 different languages. Projects have appeared on ESPN, The Guardian, and CNN for brands such as Adidas, Heineken, Tag Heuer, and Major League Soccer.

Eugene is a Queens artist with his style born out of street art, who incorporates words and images to create clever, relevant, and colorful, works of art through acrylic paint and a Krink pen. His work delivers casual, humorous cultural commentary as he lays a common ground between artist, viewer, and subject.

He is an actor like Jay Z is a rapper. A business-man who's mediums for art and creation are through acting and film rather than rapping and music. As a first generation American from a war-torn country Filmon grew up primarily in suburbia before quitting college to pursue acting in NYC. In less than 9 years he has found success in acting and is now heading a restaurant media non-for-profit company, 2020 Media Company.

On episode 57 of Sounds Like NYC we got the chance to sit down with bilingual hip-hop artist Smiley Rojas-Nunez. 

Originally from NYC, Smiley moved to Oaxaca, Mexico in 2019.  

Having no friends or family in a new city is a daunting thing, especially for an artist.   Since the age of 5, he’s been interested in art, but didn’t see music as a passion until age 24.   

He uses his music to tell stories about intimacy and relationships.

On this episode of Sounds Like NYC, we sat down with New York City/NJ based producer BABYBOYBLUE. We talked about the uselessness of studying audio engineering in school, how important TikTok is to the modern musical artist and the origin of his very unique producer name.

BABYBOYBLUE (also known as Liam Reyes) is a Filipino-American Music Producer/Artist. Starting from producing for friends in high school and following his desire to learn more about audio engineering in college, he soon became disillusions with that college as an institution and decided to pursue his career through a path that didn't include getting a degree.

Liam has produced, engineered, mixed and mastered music for artists all across the world ranging from many different genres such as Indie Pop, Hip-hop, Rock/Punk and Electronic. A few big upcoming artists he has produced for include Rachel Bochner, Amanda Yang, Bianca Jolyn , Chrissie Límos, Delly Flay, Chris and Bri, Kayla Hang, Justin Magnaye, and many more.

Recently BABYBOYBLUE has also launched a limited release clothing line under the name PEACHES.

On episode 55 of Sounds Like NYC, we got the chance to chat with Brooklyn based indie rock artist Abbie Roper.

While going to college for business, Abbie attended a music program her school offered in Nashville for a semester.

This artist bootcamp made her realize her potential as a musician.

Primarily an acoustic guitarist, this program pushed her out of her comfort zone as a musician and found her sound with some more rock inspired music.

In the last year, Abbie has performed in many venues in the city including Rockwood Music Hall, The Delancey, The Bitter End and Pianos.

Using her Christian background and experience with God as inspirations for her music, she describes making her music as a spiritual experience.

On this episode of Sounds Like NYC, we sat down with New York City based singer and modern composer Stallion Dunquis. 

His recording output thus far showcases a handful of genres including R&B/soul, hip-hop, Latin, indie, garage rock, and folk.

Stallion has had a lot of experience collaborating with other musicians, both in the city and overseas. With photographer wife Estefanía, Stallion knows what it's like to balance art with a partner. 

NYC has made Stallion Dunquis be more practical with his art, which is quite the endeavor in itself. As many artists do, he himself struggles with perfectionism as a musician but has had to move past that as he's gone from playing with a full band to solo musician. 

Stallion debuted his song "Freeling" alongside a cover of "Fly Me to the Moon" at a Sofar Sounds NYC live performance. Stallion lists Jean-Michel Basquiat as a main influence on his attitude towards music. 

Previously, Stallion's poetry has been published in multiple literary journals in the U.S. and U.K., including The Wire's Dream Magazine, Porridge Magazine, Punch Drunk Press, and BlazeVOX Journal.
