It's time for our latest Sounds Like Radio Halloween Extravaganza!!   Your Humble Host is back to thrill you and chill you with this Volume 2 of our Halloween Special Extravaganzas.   We've packed today's show tight with Halloween music you'll like, some scary stories from our favorite Ghouls--Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre & Peter Lee with one of his classic chillers.   And today's Great Gildersleeve is the Halloween show I used to hear every year back in the '70's and '80's, it's still one of my all time favorites.   As Gildy's best girl, Leela and Gildy's other girl Eve Goodwin are both attending the same Halloween Party that Gildy's throwing.   I smell trouble ahead, as we hear this earliest example of a Great Gildersleeve we've ever played here on Sounds Like Radio's podcast, it's from October 31, 1943 and this one's a classic with our favorite girl, Leela.

This one’s a funny one and a great one for hearing Bing sing his Legend of Sleepy Hollow Halloween songs live on the radio.  Let’s all settle back and get ready to enjoy a Halloween Bing break with the great Lum & Abner!   And that's the beautiful Vera Ellen pictured with today's show, she's Bing's co-star in the movie White Christmas, but here she's decked out for Halloween.

Our Halloween season officially begins with our first spooky show.   What better way to start than with one of the best.  Today we must have "Quiet Please" as Your Humble Host presents a rather strange and frightening tale.  Two scientists have developed a device to move objects about in time.   What they try to send to the future doesn't come back the way it left.  They try again this time it's a....   You don't want me to give it away to yuz?   For some beginning Halloween chills from the Library of Sound Volume 144 Your Humble Host presents Quiet Please & the tale of the Northern Lights.  Originally broadcast on January 30, 1949, sit still and prepare to surround yourself with Quiet Please.

We've got an October treat for you today from Jean Shepherd on the Library of Sound Volume 143.   No it's not a spooky show, but it is a story that takes place around Halloween time (like right now).   This is a true classic Jean Shepherd kid story all about when Jean had to sell seeds for his school door to door.   He finds out it's not as easy as it seems and he was never made out to be a salesman.   A classic Jean Shepherd kid story originally broadcast October 16, 1964.   Your Humble Host had to scramble today to get this one ready for you.

It's Sounds Like Radio Volume 117 as The Great Gildersleeve is rethinking all about former flame Eve Goodwin. She's looking mighty fine in GIldy's memory and he tries to rekindle that old flame. Now Eve was never the most fun filled date even when she liked him, so, well, Good Luck Gildy. 

But Your Humble Host never gives up hope so we'll do all we can to help out. That means today it'll be time for Miss Nibbs, herself Georgia Gibbs (who's pictured here with our show), Bing Crosby is here for a 2 fer, in one of his songs he'll even be singing with himself!!, Jo Stafford lends her dulcet tones, Johnny Hartman describes Gildy to a tee, Jimmy Durante flies in for a word and Billie Holiday takes Eve's side in this whole fandango. From September 10, 1947 Harold Peary is back for the mean time as The Great Gildersleeve.

From Your Humble Host's personal collection of Jean Shepherd shows, here's one  I recorded January 29, 1975 and it's a funny one.   As Jean Shepherd hears from a kid who gets Shep's program in a most unusual place and it could drive him buggy.    Shep's having a good time today and so will we in today's Shep selection from our Vast Library of Sound Volume 142.  

In today's Library of Sound Volume 141 Johnny Dollar's in New Orleans to investigate a fire insurance claim the holder of the policy does NOT want paid to him.   Well, this does sound suspicious.   There's more to this than at first appears in this Yours Truly Johnny Dollar classic episode from November 25, 1956.   Your Humble Host is in on this hot case with you and Johnny.

Sounds Like Radio is here with Volume 116 and an especially exciting selection of music to inspire Gildy in his cigar habit breaking.   Yep, we hear the May 28, 1947 Great Gildersleeve as Gildy is told by the doc to give up the cigars.   But never fear, Your Humble Host is here and I've brought along with me some mighty fine singers to help kick that cigar habit.   Just wait till I tell you, now Tex Williams don't mind the cigars so much as he's more annoyed at others taking smoking breaks, Peggy Lee, she's going to drive us all mad with her desires, Bing reminds us of that danger, Sophie Tucker she also has a bad habit she's going to tell us all about, Louis Armstrong is bird watching or listening anyway, Helen Ward sweetly sways her way through the smoke and then it's bonus time: we bring on Phil Harris for a special rarely heard version of a song we just couldn't resist.   

Gildy may have a hard time givin' up the smokes, but we're having fun here.   Uh, that's Edie Adams you see pictured with today's show and baby, You ain't helpin'.
