Your Humble Host welcomes you to enjoy a classic Jean Shepherd story today that he recorded on January 17, 1975.   It's all about when Jean Shepherd's mother had the Dish Rag Chain Letter madness!   She wanted those dish rags even if the "Old Man" thought she was nuts.   Shep was a kid and he was stuck in the middle of that pile of dish rags too.   Listen today to a funny story Shep even told on TV in a PBS special from 1982 called "The Great American Fourth of July & Other Disasters".  This tape comes from Your Humble Host's personal Library of Sound recordings Volume 126.  

From the Library of Sound Volume 125 comes a strange and dangerous visit with The Shadow.  Today Your Humble Host dips into the files of September 26, 1943 to find this extra eerie edition of The Shadow.  Margo Lane gets into more trouble than she bargained for when she finds herself surrounded by The Gibbering Things.  YIPE!   Now it's up to the Shadow to find her and prove once again that Crime Does Not Pay.     

Oooh we got a good one today.  I just heard it myself and I want to hear it again.  FIrst off in GIldy Land today the Mayor's race is heating up and GIldy's backing rotten neighbor Bullard.  Gildy passes out the ceegars to campaign for Bullard and things go awry from there.   Listen to Sounds Like Radio Volume 109 and the November 1, 1950 Great Gildersleeve.

But the really good news is what we have for you both before and after the Gildersleeve show.  I've gone deep into the Sounds Like Radio archives and have emerged with some winners.   We'll be listening to 2 very special STEREO recordings by the REAL Ink Spots and the real Vaughn Monroe!!!  We then turn to a song written by Ralph Kramden & Ed Norton from Jackie Gleason's Honeymooners and the actual record made of that song by Bob Manning.  Jo Stafford thinks Gildy has trouble in mind, Bing Crosby and Peggy Lee are here to sing a duet that is rarely found or heard, Billie Holiday sings a really neat song that is not one you ever hear Billie sing, but you will today.  

Your Humble Host enters the Library of Sound and brings forth Volume 124.   It's The Adventures of Sam Spade and "The Bow Window Caper" from November 9, 1947.  Another action packed story mixed with a few laughs along the way.  It's the way we like it too.

Your Humble Host is so pleased each time to bring you another original Rex Stout Nero Wolfe story.   Today on the Library of Sound Volume 123 we have Nero Wolfe in "Instead of Evidence" originally broadcast on March 6, 1982.  This story appears in the Rex Stout book "Trouble In Triplicate" you can read all about it after you hear the show.   Get set for mystery and action with Archie Goodwin and the master detective, Nero Wolfe.

Welcome to Sounds Like Radio Volume 108 where The Great Gildersleeve from October 25, 1950 finds himself wanting to join the Sons of Summerfield.  But there may be a catch, the initiation is giving Gildy the jitters and 2nd thoughts.  Will Gildy join in with the boys in town or will he decide to just have a Coke at the drug store with Peevey?   After hearing today's show he may take a new '65 Buick down to Peevey's. 

Oh well, you know we have a few advisers on hand to help.  Lola Albright (she's pictured with this show) she tells our boy to Do What You Gotta Do, Dean Martin agrees with Gildy, Jo Stafford is wanted for what she knows, Gogi Grant's desire is to be a Son of Summerfield, Bing Crosby & The Andrew Sisters find it peculiar and Grandpa advises Gildy to consider being a wanderer.
