Honoring others sounds like a noble goal, but it can be a difficult task. The attitude and actions of others often seem to get in the way. Today’s sermon addresses the question, “How do you honor others when you don’t feel like it?”

Pastor Keith recognized this year’s graduates and challenged to continue their personal journey with God.

Through a discussion Jesus had with two sisters, Mary and Martha, we see the encouragement that he provided for both women.

In a culture that prioritizes canceling out others over celebrating their accomplishments, “honor” seems to be a forgotten word. In society’s shift to self-awareness and self-satisfaction, we have lost the understanding that valuing those around us is actually a good thing.

In today’s sermon, we will discover that honoring others should be a response to the free gift of salvation that Jesus provided for us. Honoring others is more than a lifestyle that allows us to be more like Jesus.

In today’s parable, Jesus tells the story of a father forgiving his son after their relationship had been severed after choices the son had made. Through the parable, Jesus provides a clear picture of the forgiveness God provides when someone returns to him.

Jesus tells the story of a shepherd leaving his flock of ninety-nine sheep to chase down one that had wandered off. Through the parable, Jesus gives a clear picture of God’s heart that relentlessly pursue those who don’t follow him.

Jesus often spoke in parables which felt like to many that he was talking in some sort of code. Jesus never intended to hide his wisdom or keep spiritual truth from the listeners. Rather, Jesus wanted people to lean into what he was communicating and think through what it meant for their own lives.

In today’s parable Jesus tells the story of a man planning an elaborate party only to have his invited guests back out of attending. The man then opens up the invitation to those no one expected to ever invite.

The purpose of the parable is to help the listener to understand that God has invited everyone to follow him and actively be a part of his Kingdom.

A point of interest is a specific location that individuals find useful or interesting. The greater the understanding of the history, the context, the people pr even the personal significance, the more impactful the point of interest becomes for the sojourner.

Throughout the series, “Points of Interests,” we will take a journey through the Gospels to explore five monumental points of interests that will leave a lasting impression.

The question arises, “How did they miss him?” A more relevant question is, “Are we missing Jesus when he is right there with us?”.
