Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview the Mississippi State football roster for the 2024 season and share their predictions for Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs. Topics include:

From Mike Leach’s passing to Zach Arnett’s one year in Starkville, a lack of continuity puts first-year State head coach Jeff Lebby in a tough spot.

However, Lebby did a terrific job in adding skill players in the portal, from quarterback Blake Shapen (Baylor), running back Davon Booth (Utah State), wide receivers Kelly Akharaiyi (UTEP), Kevin Coleman (Louisville) and Trent Hudson (New Mexico State) and also, tight end Seydou Traore (Arkansas State).

Mississippi State addressed the offensive line with left tackle transfer Maylan Pounders (Memphis), guards Jacoby Jackson (Texas Tech) and Marlon Martinez (LSU) and center Ethan Miner (North Texas), but the right side of the line (which includes Albert Reese IV and Leon Bell) is almost completely untested.

Mississippi State will pin its defensive line hopes on preseason All-Southeastern Conference pick De’Monte Russell, and the hope that returnees like Treyvion Williams and Deonte Anderson find a new level of performance.

It’s a rebuild at linebacker, where South Carolina transfer Stone Blanton steps in to start along with J.P. Purvis andJohn Lewis.

West Virginia transfer Montre Miller will start at corner; Miller had four interceptions in 2022 at WVU. He’ll be joined in the secondary by returning starter Corey Ellington at safety.

The Bulldogs have a challenging rebuild but perhaps some early built-in wins to help the team gain confidence in Lebby’s first year.

Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview Florida vs. Miami in their opening game of the 2024 college football season and share their predictions for the matchup at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville.

Both Florida’s Billy Napier and Miami’s Mario Cristobal need to win this one badly.

Miami added one of the best players in the transfer portal in Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward.

The Hurricanes have a loaded receiving room that includes Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George.

Miami returns four of five starters on its offensive line.

Miami’s defensive front seven appears loaded, with Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year Rueben Bain returning at end, and big-play linebacker Francisco Mauigoa.

Florida has a solid offense, led by underrated quarterback Graham Mertz, running back Montrell Johnson Jr., and receiver Eugene Wilson III.

The Gators have an experienced offensive line led by Austin Barber.

Florida added defensive line depth in the portal with Joey Slackman (Penn) and George Gumbs (Northern Illinois) that could come in handy on a hot, humid afternoon.

Florida’s reloaded secondary features returnees Jason Marshall and Jordan Castell, and was also bolstered with the additions of Asa Turner (Washington), DJ Douglas (Tulane) and Trikweze Bridges (Oregon).

Oddsmakers have Miami favored by about two points; computers we watch have it as a toss-up. Will Florida’s home-field advantage in The Swamp make the difference here?

Auburn adds talented-but-underutlized outfielder Jett Johnston (Texas A&M) as well as pitcher Sam Dutton (LSU) and Lucas Steele (Samford).

Texas will participate in the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic on Mar. 1-3 against Texas Tech, Washington and Illinois.

Alabama is in the Jacksonville College Baseball Classic on Feb. 21-3 against Ohio State, Coastal Carolina and NC State.

The Aggies have a new coach in Mike Elko. A&M returns a healthy Connor Weigman for 2024, plus, experienced depth in Jaylen Henderson and Marcel Reed.

The Aggies have a deep backfield in Rueben Owens, Amari Daniels and Le’Veon Moss. Texas A&M added to a wide receiver room that included Noah Thomas and Moose Muhammad III with Cyrus Allen (Louisiana Tech) and Jabre Barber (Troy).

The Aggies get back tight end Donovan Green (who missed all last year) and added Fresno State tight end Tre Watson.

Texas A&M has a pair of all-star candidates in left tackle Trey Zuhn III and Chase Bisontis (left guard) and also adds a pair of key transfers on the right side in Kolinu’u Fauulu and Ar’maj Adams (Utah and Kansas).

Texas A&M has a fantastic defensive line, starting with Nic Scourton (Purdue transfer) and Shemar Turner.

The Aggies added a pair of Florida transfers in Scooby Williams and Jaydon Hill. Tyreek Chappell is a preseason All-SEC pick at cornerback, plus, Kansas State transfer Will Lee III across from him.

Quinn Ewers returns for his 3rd year starting and coming off of a season where he passed for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Replacing Wide receivers was a priority in the offseason and they did so with Isaiah Bond from Alabama, Matthew Golden of Houston, Silas Bolden of Oregon State, and a Tight End transfer from Alabama Amari Niblack.

The offensive line returns 4 from last season and will be anchored by Jake Majors at center and Kelvin Banks at tackle.

They have made improvements on defense as well by adding Trey Moore from UTSA, as well as, Andrew Mukuba from Clemson.

Anthony Hill and David Gbenda are veterans returning at linebacker for the Longhorns.
