This checklist for fascistic personalities and cults was originally released as a bonus episode in 2019. It was rereleased in 2020 due to the rise of Qanon, conspiracy cults, and organized white supremacy. We're releasing it again as a regular episode in light of the sexual abuse problems in martial arts. This episode, unfortunately, is becoming a perennial resource. Please continue to share it with others.
❖
Many of us have questions about spotting red flags for fascists and cults of personalities. Fortunately for us, philosopher Theodor W. Adorno and other researchers at University of California, Berkeley, have already done the work. Studying fascist personality traits during and after World War II, their findings were published in 1950. However, you might be surprised how consistent these personality traits have remained. In fact, this is even more insightful today than it was back then because World War II had people convinced fascism was an anomaly unique only to German Nazis; whereas now, we know there are fascists all around us.

We brought back sociologist and activist-scholar, professor Nadia Kim (episode 31) to talk to us about environmental racism and what that means to communities of color locally and for the Global South.
"When we think of climate justice, we think of it as something out there happening to nature. No. We have to understand that people in the Global South and communities of color in our own urban centers suffer the most from climate catastrophes. We have to make that connection."
