Consistency is the Key, Wk. 2 - Fasting
Sermon Notes:
One of the most basic biblical insights, is that whatever controls and shapes one’s life is in effect the god one worships.
JI Packer
Good things have the potential to be bad things if we are not careful.
Fasting is abstaining from anything for a measured period of time to heighten my hunger for God.
We will experience deeper intimacy and richness in our relationship with God when we make fasting a consistent practice in our lives.
“If our fasting is not unto God we have failed. Physical benefits, success in prayer, enduring with power, spiritual insights, these must never replace God as the center of our fasting.
Richard Foster
Bottom Line:
The focus of fasting is feeding from the Father.
“How easily we begin to allow nonessentials to take precedence in our lives. How quickly we crave things we do not need until we are enslaved by them.”
Richard Foster
“First, let it be done unto the Lord with our eye singly fixed on Him. Let our intention herein be this and this alone, to glorify our Father which is in heaven…that is the only way we will be saved from loving the blessing more than the Blesser.
John Wesley
