Outline: v2-4 - Solomon’s purpose in writing, v5-6 - His Desire for us, v7 - Conclusion
     v2 – Attaining wisdom & discipline (discernment & instruction/correction)
     v2 – Understanding words of insight (lit: understand words of understanding)
     v3 – Acquiring a disciplined & prudent life (“prudent” = wise behavior, emphasis on action)
     v3 – Doing what is right & just & fair (right: morality, just: legally, fair: relationally)
          Micah 6:8
     v4 – Giving prudence to the simple (naïve, open-minded, foolish, simple. Wisdom is not just elite)
     v4 – Giving knowledge & discretion to the young (That the young might learn without exp.)
          “Learn from your mistakes, but whenever possible, learn from the mistakes of others!”
     v5 – Wise would add learning & Discerning would get guidance (Never stop/finish…)
     v6 – To understand proverbs & parables (Progressive & Cyclical, Concept of Hermeneutics)
     v7 – Fear = Reverence/piety, Beginning = initial & principal, Despise = disrespect/devalue

Our approach to prayer must shift away from trying to get God to do what we want and towards getting ourselves to do what God wants...

Stands up to king for two reasons: it’s the right thing to do & Daniel wants king know God.
Daniel 4:27 – Risks his life with the message to Repent!

Gal 6:1 – Two prayers for Christians who need to STAND UP:
“Lord, help me to confront with caution and genuine concern.”
“Most critical of others in the areas we struggle most.”
“People will never care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
“Lord, help me to confront with the goal of restoration.”

BL: We stand up not because we are right, but so that others can be right with God.

Daniel 1:11-15 à Instead of making a public protest, Daniel honors authority & creates a plan.
You can stand out in the wrong way!
