Sermon Title: Called to Freedom
Key Scriptures: Galatians 5:13-14
Discussion Questions:
Take a few moments to share your initial thoughts and reactions to this weekend’s service and to the series thus far.
What one thing challenged, interested or stood out to you the most?
What is the one action within human history that has set us free from the law and this world?
“Our freedom is not the result of our decisions and actions. God acted in history on the cross and through the resurrection to set us free.”
Do you agree or disagree with the above statement?
Read Galatians 5:13-14 out loud in three different translations (use online Bibles if necessary). What insights do you gain from reading this text in these three different versions?
How would you define freedom from an earthly/humanistic view point?
How would you define freedom from a Godly view point?
Which view point do you lean more towards? (Worldly/Godly)
Paul tells us that our call to freedom is a call to serve others, is this an easy calling to follow? Why or why not?
What other passages of scripture come to mind when thinking about putting the needs of others above our own?
How can these scriptures challenge and grow you as you build your relationship with Christ?
In Galatians 5:19-21, Paul gives us a list of sinful desires that people seem to follow instead of following God wholeheartedly, why do we choose to allow temporary gains and pleasures to take the place of our relationship with God?
Does this list still apply to us today or has it changed because it is the 21st century?
In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul gives us a list of the fruit of the Spirit, why is it important for us to live with these qualities?
Compare and contrast the list from 5:19-21 and 5:22-23, are there any life examples that you can think of where you could respond with a specific action from either list.
What can you do as a life group to help each other live within the fruit of the Spirit?
